Please restore the persistent "Copy design" button in Make's top toolbar
Summary
A recent Figma Make update has removed the "Copy design" button from the top toolbar. The action is now buried inside the Edit mode. For a workflow this central and frequent but hard to find now, that is a clear regression, and I would ask the team to restore the button as a persistent control.
What changed
- Until recently, "Copy design" was always visible at the top of the Make interface: one click, then paste into a Figma Design file.
- Now you must click "Edit" in the top-right of the preview, find the small Copy design icon in the floating toolbar, choose "Whole page", and only then can you paste. Opening Edit also brings up the Page styles panel, which clutters the workspace when all you actually wanted was to copy a screen.
Why this is a step backwards
- Extra clicks for a high-frequency action. Moving Make previews into Design as editable layers is a core loop, not an occasional editing task. It ought to be one click.
- Discoverability. The button is effectively hidden — several users on this forum have already reported being unable to find it, and I spent some time convinced the feature had been removed altogether.
- Forced visual clutter. Reaching Copy design now opens the visual editor and its properties panel even when no visual editing is intended.
- Confusing hierarchy. The prominent "Make a copy" button (which duplicates the entire Make file) remains easy to spot, while the far more useful "Copy design" is tucked away — it is all too easy to click the wrong one.
The ask
Please bring "Copy design" back as a persistent button in the top toolbar, or at the very least provide a setting to pin it there. The new Whole page / Current element / Record flow options are genuinely welcome; they could simply appear after clicking the top-level button, rather than requiring Edit mode first.
Environment
