Hello,

I am reaching out because I’ve been experiencing a recurring issue in Figma when exporting images. For quite some time now, exported files (PNG, sometimes JPG) often display a thin white border around the visuals, even though:

  • my frames are properly aligned to the pixel grid,

  • dimensions are set to whole numbers (no decimals),

  • and no extra background is applied.

This issue does not appear to be related to the viewer display (I tested across different software), but to the export process itself.

Today, I lost over 4 hours of work trying to resolve this problem (recreating frames, exporting at 2x/3x, checking the pixel grid, etc.), without finding a reliable fix. This is extremely disruptive to my workflow and directly impacts the quality and timing of my deliverables.

Could you please let me know if this issue is known to your team, and whether a definitive solution or update is planned?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Best regards,

Hey! I’ve faced the same issue before.

For me, the issue was that a drop shadow was accidentally applied to my frames, which wasn’t visible on the Figma canvas, but when exported created those white borders.

I don’t know if it’s the fix for you, but figured I’d suggest it!

Hey! Thanks for the tip 🙌 In my case it wasn’t that though — I only had frames with images inside. The issue ended up being caused by a .5 value on the Y position, which (surprisingly) created those white borders on export. Once I set everything to whole numbers (both for dimensions and positions), the problem disappeared. Seems like Figma doesn’t really like decimals there!

Hey @LaurieSF, thanks for following up and for sharing all the steps you’ve already tried. What you noticed is exactly right: when a layer is positioned on a sub-pixel (for example, 0.5 on the X or Y axis), exports can sometimes show an extra line or appear slightly cropped.

To resolve this you can either manually change its coordinates from the Properties Panel, or by using the Round-to Pixel function from the menu:

  1. Select that object and go to main menu - from there choose quick actions
  2. Search for Round to pixel

I'd also suggest also activating Snap to Pixel Grid to see if that helps. You can also enable it from the main menu - Quick actions:

If you continue running into this issue or notice it happening in other contexts, please don’t hesitate to reach out again. You can also contact our support team directly through this form and share your file link. Just invite support-share@figma.com with “can edit” permissions (this won’t affect your billing) and our team will be able to dig deeper.

Thank you,

Gayani
