When clicking on an element and trying to set the fill to a pattern, it’s not possible to select a source and use it as a pattern anymore.

Issue is happening both in browser and desktop app (126.1.2).

Hi @Dominik Eibensteiner

I understand that you’re experiencing an issue using patterns as a fill.

I don’t have version 126.1.2 yet, but I tested on my side using the Figma Desktop app (126.0.4) and Chrome, and it’s working as expected.

I also checked internally and saw some feedback that the “Select source” button can be a bit confusing for some users.

Just to cover the basics, could you please confirm that you’re following the steps below to apply a Pattern fill?

  1. Select a layer on the canvas.
  2. Click the swatch in the Fill section of the right sidebar to open the color picker.
  3. Select  Pattern from the fill options.
  4. Click “Select source”, then select another object on the canvas.
  5. Use the pattern options to set the tile type, scale, spacing, alignment, and opacity.

You can also refer to this guide (including a video walkthrough):Use patterns as a fill or stroke

If the issue persists, could you please share a bit more detail?

  • When you click “Select source”, then choose another object, do you see any error message?

  • Does force-quitting and restarting the Figma Desktop app make any difference?

  • Is this happening in both the Desktop app and browser?

  • Is the issue limited to a specific file, or does it occur across all files?

If you’re still experiencing the issue after trying the steps above:
Please let us know the details. We’ll connect you with our team to investigate further or you can submit a bug report through Contact support via the (?) icon in the bottom-right corner of your Figma file.

The chatbot will guide you through opening a report with our team so they can take a closer look, and you’ll be able to communicate with them directly.

Here’s a guide you can refer to:  What to share in a bug report to Figma Support

Thanks,
