I copy a frame as an image and try to paste that image into a fill image property of another frame but this doesn’t work anymore. Even copy image from other source (from the browser, from computer) isn’t working too. I’m using Figma app on Windows

Hey @Bao Do, thanks for reaching out!

Sorry to hear you're running into this, let's figure out what's going on. A few things that would help us narrow this down:

Could you let us know which version of the Figma app you're on? You can find this under Help → Figma desktop app info (or About Figma in the browser). Also, are you seeing this happen in both the desktop app and the browser, or just one of them?

In the meantime, here's something worth trying: rather than pasting while the fill picker is open, try clicking on the fill thumbnail in the right sidebar first (the image icon to the left of the fill swatch — it'll highlight in blue when selected), then paste with Ctrl+V. A few users have found this more reliable than pasting while the picker panel is open.

You can also use Upload from computer directly in the fill picker as a fallback, the steps are covered in Add images and videos to designs if you haven't tried that route yet.

Let me know what you find and we'll go from there!

If you're running into the issue where pasting an image into a Figma fill property doesn't work, you're definitely not the only one. Several users have reported the same behavior, and it appears to be related to recent updates. A quick refresh or selecting the image fill itself before copying can often solve the problem until the latest fixes are applied. Discussions like these are why communities matter, and Laptop Giant always enjoys following practical design tips that improve everyday workflows.

Desktop app version 126.5.6 (on Windows 11). I tried on the browser and the issue still happen. I can copy and paste image fill no problem, but I can’t no longer paste an image (no matter what the source of this image) into a fill to create image fill. I did find a work around now, by pasting the image straight to the canvas and copy its image fill to paste to other frames, it definitely a slow down but nothing too critical.
The reason I need this to work is that I often have a complex background create in Figma and don’t want to duplicate it too many time, so I make an “image” of that frame (copy as png) to use as a image fill for a container, so I don’t need a separate complex layer for background.

Hey @Bao Do, thanks again for all that detail!

I've gone ahead and created a support ticket for you so our team can dig into this properly. You should receive an email shortly, when you do, please reply and include as many details as you can (any additional screenshots, file links, or steps you've noticed). Someone will follow up with you there directly.

For reference, your ticket number is #1974855.

In the meantime, the step-around you found, pasting the image to the canvas first and copying its image fill across to your target frames, is the most reliable path for now.

Someone from the team should be in touch with you soon, appreciate your patience in the meantime!
