Pasting image into a fill property doesn't work

Sorry to hear you're running into this, let's figure out what's going on. A few things that would help us narrow this down:

Could you let us know which version of the Figma app you're on? You can find this under Help → Figma desktop app info (or About Figma in the browser). Also, are you seeing this happen in both the desktop app and the browser, or just one of them?

In the meantime, here's something worth trying: rather than pasting while the fill picker is open, try clicking on the fill thumbnail in the right sidebar first (the image icon to the left of the fill swatch — it'll highlight in blue when selected), then paste with Ctrl+V. A few users have found this more reliable than pasting while the picker panel is open.

You can also use Upload from computer directly in the fill picker as a fallback, the steps are covered in Add images and videos to designs if you haven't tried that route yet.

Let me know what you find and we'll go from there!

If you're running into the issue where pasting an image into a Figma fill property doesn't work, you're definitely not the only one. Desktop app version 126.5.6 (on Windows 11). I tried on the browser and the issue still happen. I can copy and paste image fill no problem, but I can’t no longer paste an image (no matter what the source of this image) into a fill to create image fill. I did find a work around now, by pasting the image straight to the canvas and copy its image fill to paste to other frames, it definitely a slow down but nothing too critical.
The reason I need this to work is that I often have a complex background create in Figma and don’t want to duplicate it too many time, so I make an “image” of that frame (copy as png) to use as a image fill for a container, so I don’t need a separate complex layer for background.

Encountering a similar issue. Previously, there was a reliable workflow for copying an image fill property from one frame to another:

1. Select the source frame
2. In the Fill panel (right sidebar), click the image layer inside the fill block
3. Press `Cmd + C` to copy
4. Select the target frame
5. Press `Cmd + V` to paste

Expected Behavior: Just the image fill property should be transferred to the target frame.

Actual Behavior: The paste action applies the image fill to the target frame but also includes other properties such as corner radius.

If this is a known issue, I'd appreciate any updates on when it might be fixed.

The method you tried (selecting the image layer in the Fill section of the right sidebar, then copying and pasting onto the target frame) is actually the way we'd recommend today for swapping just the image fill without touching anything else. So having other properties like corner radius carry over with it isn't what's supposed to happen.

There have been some other reports earlier in this thread about copying and pasting image fills too, but I want to check with our team on whether this specific corner radius behaviour is connected or something separate before I call it a confirmed issue. I don't want to point you in the wrong direction.
Could you let me know which Figma app version you're on (Help → Figma desktop app info, or About Figma in the browser), and whether you're seeing this in the desktop app, the browser, or both? That'll help the team narrow it down.

Your source frame has a 64px corner radius and an image fill, and the target frame starts at 0 corner radius with a plain white fill. After copying the fill from the source and pasting it onto the target, the fill updates correctly to the image. But the corner radius also flips to match the source's 64px, which shouldn't happen with this method.

I've passed the video and these specifics along to our engineering team so they have everything they need to dig in. I don't have a timeline to share yet, but I'll keep this thread updated as soon as I hear more.

In the meantime, the method mentioned earlier in this thread, pasting the image to the canvas first, then copying its image fill across has worked as a fallback for other users on the image side of things. If the corner radius carries over there too, let us know and we'll look at that separately.

Hey ​@Anon Designer, I've been going back and forth with our engineering team on this, and there's one distinction worth double-checking before we go further. Figma Design actually has two separate paste actions that look similar but behave very differently:

• ⌘C / Ctrl+C on a highlighted property (like the Fill row you clicked) copies just that one property
• ⌥⌘C / Ctrl+Alt+C ("Copy properties") copies everything the layer supports. Corner radius included, and pastes with ⌥⌘V / Ctrl+Alt+V

Since corner radius is carrying over for you, I want to rule out whether the second shortcut is getting triggered somewhere in the flow. Could you try it again making sure it's the plain ⌘C / ⌘V (no Option) on both the copy and paste steps, and let me know if the corner radius still carries over?
