Hi Figma team,

In the past few days, the shortcut Shift + Command + V for pasting text without formatting has completely stopped working.

Expected behavior (previous):

  • While editing inside an existing text box, pressing Shift + Command + V pasted only the plain text content, inheriting the current text box’s font, size, and color.

Current behavior (now):

  • Pressing Shift + Command + V does nothing — no text is pasted, and there’s no response in the UI.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Copy some text from a another text layer.

  2. Double-click into an existing text box in Figma.

  3. Press Shift + Command + V.

Result:

  • No action occurs. No text is inserted.

This shortcut used to be a very common part of my workflow, and losing it has significantly slowed down my text editing process. Could you confirm if this is a bug or if the shortcut has been changed?

Thank you!

Hi @Biscay6697

I understand you're experiencing an issue where the Shift + Command + V shortcut no longer pastes unformatted text into a text layer as it used to.

Thanks for providing such clear steps! I tested this on my end in Figma Design, and the shortcut seems to be working as expected — plain text is pasted while maintaining the current typography settings of the text layer.

Let’s try a few quick troubleshooting steps to see if this resolves the issue:

  1. Close any extra Figma tabs you’re not using

  2. Then try the following:

    • Browser: Fully quit your browser and open Figma in a new window

    • Desktop App: Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and restart it

If the issue still persists, could you help confirm the following?

  • Does this happen only in the desktop app, or also in a supported browser?

  • Is the issue specific to one file, or do you see it across multiple files?

  • Which Figma product are you using when this occurs (e.g., Figma Design)?

If the shortcut continues to behave unexpectedly, the best next step would be to submit a bug report so our team can investigate your specific case in more detail.

Thanks,

Hi Junko3,

After further troubleshooting based on my usage scenario, I found that the issue is caused by a conflict with my workplace communication tool, DingTalk.

When DingTalk is closed, the Shift + Command + V shortcut works as expected in Figma.

When DingTalk is running, the shortcut becomes unresponsive — but I’ve checked and there’s no related shortcut configured in DingTalk itself.

Thank you very much for your reply and guidance!

I’ll reach out to the DingTalk developers for further assistance.

Thanks for the update, @Biscay6697! I’m glad to hear you were able to identify the cause!

OMG this is the issue. THX

Just got a inside feedback from Alibaba (Company of DingTalk). They will fix this issue for the next big version update (8.0?).

Till then you can find this option of “Paste as plain text” in the setting of DingTalk and we can simply just turn it off.😌
