Ownership of files after transfer between workspaces

Hello Figma Support,

We recently transferred part of our Figma projects to the new workspace. We noticed that around 100 files still show the previous owner as: user@company1.com

However, when we open the sharing settings and check “Anyone in [project name]”, we can also see the owner/account listed as: user@company2.com

We want to make sure we handle this correctly and avoid making any files ownerless or inaccessible. Could you please advise on the fastest and safest way to transfer ownership of these files from user@company1.com to user@company2.com?

Specifically, we would like to understand:
Is there a way to bulk transfer ownership for approximately 100 files?
Can this be done through the Admin Console, or does Figma Support need to perform the transfer? Would removing or deleting user@company1.com from the organization automatically transfer ownership, or would the files become ownerless?
Is the project-level owner shown under “Anyone in [project name]” enough to ensure the files are safely owned by user@company2.com, or do we still need to transfer ownership at the file level?

Our goal is to complete the ownership migration as quickly as possible while making sure no files lose ownership or access.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hey @adm_dg , Celine from the Community Support at Figma here, thanks for the detailed write-up! I can see your support ticket has been picked up and the agent is waiting for a bit more information from you to map out the safest next steps. Please check your inbox and reply there directly so they can move forward. For reference, your case number is 1967478.

In the meantime, here are a few high-level things to know about how file ownership works in Figma:

- Bulk transfer via project: the most efficient approach for multiple files is to move them into a project and then transfer ownership of that project. When a project is transferred, the files within it transfer too.
- Only the current owner can transfer ownership: so it's important to do this before removing or deactivating the original account. Deleting a user does not automatically reassign ownership.
- Individual files: ownership can be transferred through the Share dialog, but for ~100 files, the project-level approach is much more practical.
- Support can't perform transfers on your behalf: this needs to be done by the current file/project owner directly.

You can find more details here: Transfer ownership of files and projects
