Option+Command+V is not working

Hi Figma Support,

After the recent update, Paste properties stopped working correctly in Figma Desktop.

Copy properties still works: when I press Option + Command + C, Figma shows the “Copied properties” notification. However, Paste properties does not apply the copied formatting when I press Option + Command + V.

This is especially problematic when editing text fragments inside a text layer. I use this feature constantly to apply font formatting to selected characters, for example numbers and mathematical symbols inside longer text blocks. Before the update, the same shortcut and workflow worked normally.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a text layer in Figma Desktop.

  2. Select a formatted part of the text.

  3. Press Option + Command + C.

  4. Select another part of the same or another text layer.

  5. Press Option + Command + V.

  6. The copied text properties are not applied.

I have already tried restarting Figma and using Reset Figma and Restart, but the issue remains.

Could you please check if this is a bug in the latest Figma Desktop update?

Thank you.

Hi everyone, Celine from Figma here, working closely with @Tom Reem !

Just giving you an update: our engineers have released and verified a fix for copying and pasting as a property within the same file. For cross-file copy and paste, the fix is available now. Please restart/refresh Figma to ensure you're using the latest release.
Thank you!

Hey @Anna Ardysheva, thanks for reaching out!

To help narrow things down, a couple of questions:

  1. What version of Figma Desktop are you on? You can check under the Figma menu > Help and account > About Figma.
  2. Does the same issue happen in the browser version of Figma?

In the meantime, a couple of things worth trying:

  1. Try the menu path instead of the shortcut: right-click a layer and select Copy/paste as > Paste properties. This helps confirm whether it's the shortcut binding or the underlying action that's affected.
  2. Check whether another app on your system has claimed Opt + Cmd + V as a global shortcut, clipboard managers, communication tools, and some accessibility apps can intercept these silently.
  3. If the shortcut continues to be unresponsive, you can also reassign it temporarily via macOS System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > App Shortcuts, add Figma and set "Paste Properties" to a different key combination while we dig into this.

For reference on how Paste properties is expected to work with text selections, our Copy and paste properties between layers article has a good overview.

Once you share those details, I can take it from there!

Hi @Gayani_S I am having this issue as well. I believe the underlying action is affected. `Paste properties` notification or effect does not happen on any of the below:

  • Shortcut: Opt + Cmd + V
  • Menu path: Copy/Paste as… → `Paste properties`
  • Macro modal: Cmd + / → type `Paste properties` → Hit `Enter`

Hey @Ryan8 👋 Thanks for the follow up. I’d like to get this on to support. Along with what you already provided, would you be able to share the following:

  • What version of Figma Desktop are you on? You can check under the Figma menu > Help and account > About Figma
  • Does the same issue happen in the browser version of Figma?
  • Can you share a not-zoomed in screen-recording of the issue happening? This is always very useful for support (if there are privacy issues, this can be shared as an attachment in a support ticket)

If so, I’ll open a support ticket for us. Talk soon! — Jaycee

@Jaycee Lewis

I was able to refine the reproduction steps for the error. A text box with multiple text styles in it cannot contain a source for copied properties, even if a specific word in that is highlighted as a source for those copied properties.

Reproduction steps

  1. Make a text box with some text in it.
  2. Make one word bold.
  3. Select that word. Copy properties.
  4. Try to paste the properties onto a non-bold word in that text box.

Answers to your questions

  • Figma Desktop App version 126.6.9
  • Yes
  • Screen recording attached, with Keyboard Viewer visible. I am showing 3 different methods failing: keyboard shortcuts, menu path, and macros. Successful cases as well as unsuccessful as described above.

Same problem here. Font properties are not copied. I think it copies only line height.

In browser and in desktop version 126.4.11
