My mouse cursor is "jumping" when I try to edit something

Hello!
I have been using Figma in the browser for more than a year on this PC and this has never happened before. When I try to move or resize a selected element, the mouse jumps diagonally about 5 mm away, so I can't move anything anymore. It happened after 20 minutes of working on this file without any problem, but now the bug affects every component.

(I recorded a screen capture to better understand this weird interaction.)

(I may have made an error and accidentally activated an option without knowing it?)

Hey everyone — good news!

Our engineering team identified and resolved the root cause of this issue. ✅

💡 To access the fix, simply refresh the tab you're working in — mouse interactions should work as expected after that.

We're keeping a close eye on things, so if anyone is still experiencing this after refreshing, please let us know here.

Thanks to everyone who reported this and took the time to troubleshoot. The details you shared, especially around the Firefox version and browser testing, made a real difference in helping us track this down. 🙏🏻

Having the same problem that’s how I found this post in the first place, also using Firefox.

Edit: I checked, it seems to work just fine on Google Chrome so until this is fixed that might be a workaround, eventhough I’m not a big fan of using Chrome

Clément Baille

Thanks !

I should have tried another browser, it seems to work on Chromium. I checked the Figma desktop version, it works too, so I'll go through this for now

Hey everyone, thanks so much for flagging this,

Really appreciate you chiming in as well, @Nikodemas  and @ElectricGala, it’s helpful to know this may be specific to Firefox.

A few things that would help us narrow this down:

  • Can you confirm which browser you’re using (is it Firefox as well, or something else)?
  • Is it happening across all files, or just one specific file?
  • Do you notice this behavior outside of Figma (e.g. other websites or apps), or only within Figma?
  • Have you tried restarting your browser
  • Are you using any browser extensions? If so, does disabling them help?
  • What’s your current zoom level in the browser (e.g. 100%)?

It would also be really helpful if you could share the screen recording via a link (Loom, Google Drive, etc.), as I’m unable to view attachments here.

Thank you!

Same issue here, also on firefox. It only happens when something is selected and my mouse cursor moves over the border of that selected element.

The same here. I’ve noticed this started happening after the latest Firefox update. It only occurs in Firefox; I’ve tested it in Edge and it works normally

Hey everyone — Tom here, stepping in for @Gayani_S today.

Thanks for taking the time to share details and answer the troubleshooting questions — it's been really helpful. Based on everything reported here, this looks to be specific to Firefox 149 so far, and we've raised it internally for a closer look. We'll follow up here with updates as soon as we have them.

In the meantime, glad to hear that switching to Chrome, Edge, or the Figma Desktop App has been working as a temporary solution for some of you. If anyone notices any changes, especially after a Firefox update, please let us know here.

Thanks for your patience. 🙏🏻

Hey everyone, thank you for all the reports here!

The team has taken a look and this may be specific to Firefox. We’ve seen a few of you mention it happening on v149, which is really helpful. So far, the team hasn’t been able to reproduce it on their side (they tested on v147 and v149), so they’re digging in further to understand what’s going on.

If you’re running into this, it would really help if you could share your Firefox version (and anything else notable about your setup). The more details we have, the faster we can narrow this down.

In the meantime, please switch to Chrome, Edge, or work with the Figma Desktop App as a temporary workaround.

Really appreciate everyone flagging this!

Hi there,

Over the last couple days of using Figma, my Figma cursor seems to be having some issues with aligning with the element I’m trying to select. When I try to select a text box, shape, image, frame, etc. I can do so, but my cursor seems to jump above the area that I’m trying to select.

Furthermore, if I try to resize an element, I can resize it, but I have to navigate my cursor to just above the side of the element I’m trying to adjust.

How can this be fixed?

Hi @eb_739 and @Snowdud — thanks for flagging this, and sorry to hear you're running into the same issue.

A few other designers have reported similar behavior, so I've merged your posts into this thread to keep everything tracked in one place. To help narrow things down:

Could you each confirm the browser and version you're using? A few folks have found that switching to a different supported browser or the Figma Desktop App resolves the issue — worth trying if you haven't already.

Running FFv 149, checked for updates, and nothing I can do. Have restarted FF a couple times to go avail. Good luck bug hunting, guys :)

Hi, having the same problem here, I’m using FF 149.0 (64bit), Win11 just like most of the other people. Working completely fine in Chrome, but the only difference is, that for me it happens also when I hover my cursor from the left bar (Name of the file, Pages, Layers etc.) to the workspace in the middle. Most likely not tied to the hardware. I’m using a custom cursor (Not the default windows one), so there might be some collision with the Figma cursor..? But I have no evidence to support this, just an idea.

Good luck resolving this issue, hopefully it’ll be done soon :D
Feel free to contact me whenever it is fixed ;D

Ever since like a week my hovers in Figma have been broken.

My mouse is dislocated from the actual location where the cursor is, that basically makes Figma unusable. When I click on something and try to resize it the cursor just jumps around wildly.

Is this fixable for Firefox, I couldn’t replicate it on any other browser.

István Tóth AGS

Hello,

The same issue occurs on Windows 11 and Firefox 149.0 (64-bit): the cursor keeps jumping.

The problem may be related to the viewport icon change. It is possible that, after the icon changes, the JavaScript calculates the wrong coordinates. This could be causing a positioning issue.
