My Figma Make File is stuck in a Loop

After prompting to fix an issue with a animation,  the file generates a error message saying that it’s stuck in a loop and should restore to a previous version. The problem is that it jumps back to the  previous version where the behaviour that caused the loop is present, so it generates the error again.

It also treats each recovery as a new version, so it’s restoring to a previous version that triggers the error.  At this point I’m unable to jump back several versions to one that I know is stable.

Closing figma and reopening does not resolve the issue.

Hey @Diaboni, thanks for reaching out!

Just to confirm, it sounds like you're unable to restore the file to a previous version, is that correct?

When you have a moment, could you try duplicating the file and see if the duplicate allows you to restore to an earlier version without hitting the loop issue?

Also, can you let me know if is this happening in the browser, the desktop app, or both?

A few more details will help pinpoint what caused the loop in the first place:

  • What did the prompt look like when you asked to fix the issue? (before the error started appearing)

  • How many prompts did you send?

  • Was the prompt short, long, or very detailed/complex?

Thank you for your help!

When I load the duplicated file, it tries to restore the last version, which is the one stuck in a loop, so it generates another version with the same error.

I’m working in the desktop app environment.

My first prompt was that an animation for an 60 second audio playback waveform in a drawer that opened at the bottom of the application and it was causing text nearby to flash rapidly. With the panel seelcted by the target prompt control, I asked to stop the text from flashing and the values tracking the audio progress should be at a normal speed.  The prompt ran, and the issue wasn’t resolved, so I reiterated the problem and how I wanted it fixed.  It then ended up in the loop when it wasn’t able to resolve the issue.

I managed to get the auto loop to stop long emought to copy the error message.

Problem is I can’t get the loop to stop long enough to get into the code to download/copy.

Hey @Diaboni, thanks for following up and trying to duplicate the file!

I’ve gone ahead and submitted a support ticket on your behalf so our team can properly investigate what’s causing the infinite update loop. Your ticket number is  #1641673 for reference.

To help the team investigate, please provide them:

  • A file link: Share the Figma file link with our team and invite support-share@figma.com with can edit access (accounts with @figma.com emails won’t count toward your billing).

  • Figma Desktop App debug logsDownload and send over your desktop App debug logs using this guide:
    https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/19589001018903-Download-Figma-desktop-app-debug-logs

  • If possible, also let the team know whether you see the same “loop” when opening the file in the browser. Figma supports Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge.

Thank you for your help! The team should be in touch with you shortly and let me know if there is anything else I can help with in the meantime.
