Hello Figma Support Team,

I urgently need your assistance with a Figma file where all pages/design content appear to have been deleted.

File name: Split Ride

File link:

Approximate issue time: [insert time/date, e.g. today around 9:22 AM]

Workspace/team: [redacted by moderator to remove personal information]

I recently had a serious dispute with the developers working on my app, and shortly after that, the Figma file appears to have been emptied. The only people with access to this file were members of their team and myself. Because of the timing and the fact that all design content is missing, I am concerned that the content may have been intentionally deleted.

I need help with the following as soon as possible:

  1. Restore or help me duplicate the last working version of the file before the deletion.

  2. Confirm whether Figma can identify the account/user who deleted or removed the pages/design content.

  3. Provide guidance on how I can export or preserve the file’s version history/activity evidence.

  4. Confirm whether there are logs showing the exact time and account responsible for the removal.

  5. Advise what information Figma can provide if this needs to be escalated formally or legally.

From the version history, I can see recent restored versions and autosaves, including an autosave. I have screenshots available showing the empty file and the version history.

Please treat this as urgent because this file represents months of work and may be needed as evidence.

Hi @LOOP DIGITAL MARKETING, thanks for making a post - I can absolutely see why this is urgent!

I checked and found a support ticket you submitted, and updated it to let our team know you also posted here. You should hear back soon if you haven’t already. In the meantime,  I recommend restoring a previous version of the file since you’re already looking at that. In addition to getting your file back to a proper state, it also shows you who made what changes.

After restoring to a correct version, you could also make a duplicate of the file as a backup while you sort out any file access concerns.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and keep an eye out for a response from our support team.

Hi, thank you for checking and for escalating this.

I subscribed to Figma Professional because I urgently need to recover an autosave/version from last month in April, but when I try to access it, I still see the message: “Need to travel back in time? Unlimited version history is available on paid teams.”

I paid as an individual, because I do not have an internal team in Figma. It is only me and the external developers working on the project, and I gave them access through the edit link.

Can you please confirm what exactly I need to do in this case? Do I need to move the file into a paid team/project for the Professional plan to unlock the older version history? If yes, please guide me step by step, because this is very urgent and the file appears to have been deleted/changed by someone with edit access.

Also, I need to know who made the changes and deleted the file contents, so I can understand what happened and take the necessary action.

Apologies for the slow reply, @LOOP DIGITAL MARKETING! Thank you for upgrading for version history.

Yes, if the file is currently on a team that is not upgraded, you’ll want to move it to the team that you did upgrade. You’ll need to be a member of both teams and have can edit access, though it doesn’t sound like that’s an issue for you. We have a help article which provides instructions on moving a file to another team, both from the file browser as well as from the canvas. Here are the specific steps from the file browser, though:

  1. In the file browser, find the file you’d like to move.
  2. Right click the file thumbnail and select Move file…
  3. Search for a project or choose from the default options.
  4. Click Move.

Let me know if you have any trouble! You’re also welcome to reply to your support ticket as well.
