Min / Max still not working for grid layouts

Just searched for this issue and actually found a forum topic abt it:

This was one year ago. It still is not working and the workaround is not viable for existing tables.

Very sad to see this is not being considered at all apparently… Can only agree to the last poster, this is an issue that makes me not use the feature at all because I need it to work responsively.

Hey @Tascha 👋 Thanks for your honest feedback. One question if you have a moment — When your existing table gets narrower, which columns need minimum or maximum widths, and what should happen when the table reaches those limits? Thanks! — Jaycee

Thanks for the quick reply! 🙃

Well, it does vary from every table - expected behavior for me would be like this (really just like the existing min/max behavior with other elements in autolayouts):

  • If I set a min size for an element and the column is set to fill, it should fill the given space; if the space gets smaller than the set min, the element (and column it sits in) should lock at that min size and don’t get any smaller
  • same behavior with max, just the other way around: if there is an item with a set max, the whole column set to fill should fill to the max value and not beyond
  • this means also that an overflow of the table outside the frame will happen if there’s one or more elements with a min value assigned when the frame gets too small / empty space next to the table in case of one or more max value and the frame is big enough (which is fine imo and can be prevented by allowing at least 1 colum to freely expand)

Here is how it is behaving currently, just to show what I’m currently taking issue with:

You see here the leftmost, selected item (“Names”) which has a min of 160 assigned but the colum is not respecting that; in the picture it is down to abt 60, the item you can see a bit in the background DOES respect the min, but this does not help if the column does not respect that.

  • bonus / alternative: assign min/max to a colum/row (additionally or instead) - would  also work in my case

Hope that clarifies it 😄
