Question

Measurements on slot contents are not copied when duplicating the slot or parent frame

The measurements are not duplicated along with the contents.
When elements placed inside a Slot container are measured using Figma’s Measure Tool, duplicating the Slot with all its content or parent frame/component containing the Slot results in the duplicated object losing all measurements.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a Component containing a Slot.
  2. Place an element inside the Slot.
  3. Use Figma's Measure Tool to add measurements directly to the element/frame inside the Slot (Shift+M).
  4. Duplicate the parent Frame, Component Instance, or the Slot itself (via Cmd/Ctrl + D or Alt + Drag).
  5. Check the duplicated Frame or Slot.

Expected Behavior
The measurements attached to the objects inside the slot should be duplicated along with the slot/frame contents and remain visible on the duplicate.

Actual Behavior
The objects inside the slot are duplicated, but all attached measurements vanish / are not duplicated. The duplicated frame or slot appears without any measurement annotations.
Works only in Frames or Sections.

Context & System Information
Figma Version: Desktop App

OS: macOS

Impact: High – disrupts redlining, documentation, and handoff workflows where variants or screens using component slots are duplicated.

Hey @adrian.zuerl 👋 Thanks so much for reporting this, and for the clear before/after breakdown! I believed I reproed it in my test.

Here's what I ran. Is this close to your test?

  • Created a component with a Slot, made an instance, and dropped a rectangle into the instance's Slot
  • In Dev Mode, added a measurement to the rectangle with the Measure Tool
  • Duplicated the instance (Cmd+D)
  • On the duplicate, the measurement is gone

To test the display glitch hypothesis, I built a small Dev Mode plugin to read the underlying measurement data directly. It showed the duplicate's element had zero measurements and the page's total didn't change. The measurement genuinely wasn't carried over to the copy, not just hidden. (I’l share the plugin details in a follow-up reply) Your diagram matches what I saw exactly, including measurements surviving on Frames and Sections but not on the Slot/instance cases.

If you have a short screen recording of your repro (measure → duplicate → measurement gone), that'd be great to attach when I escalate, but no worries if not, your breakdown is already very clear.

Thanks again for partnering with us on this! — Jaycee

Hi @Jaycee Lewis ,
Thank you for reproducing.
One thing I wanted to add: It makes no difference to the bug if the measurements are created in Dev Mode or not (we can also add measurements in design mode).

It would be greatly appreciated if you could escalate it.

Thank you again!

Adrian

Hey @adrian.zuerl 👋 I opened your support ticket. The ID is 2039887 and the subject line is Measure Tool annotations dropped when duplicating a component instance/Slot (retained on Frames and Sections).

I added a few requests to front-load your case for support in the inital reply. You may need to search your email inbox (and spam) if you don’t see the ticket. Have a great rest of your day! — Jaycee
