Make Not Updating Preview

I seem to have hit a wall with Figma Make.  At first it wouldn’t update the preview unless I closed the desktop app and reopened it. Now it doesn’t implement any of the prompted changes.

I’ve tried resetting the app and clearing the cache.

One possible explanation is that the prototype is for a complex, productiviity tool.

Any other suggestions for troubleshooting.

Hey @Diaboni — welcome to Figma Forum, and I’m sorry you’re running into trouble with Figma Make. Thanks for sharing the steps you’ve already tried — that’s super helpful.

To help narrow things down a bit more, could you share a few extra details?

  • What kinds of prompts have you been using, and roughly how many?
  • I know you mentioned closing and reopening the Desktop App, though can you confirm you’re running version 125.9.10 or later?
  • Can you try prompting from a browser instead of the Desktop App? Figma Make supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge.
  • Would you say the preview issue feels more like a lag, or an abrupt blocker? If you notice any errors in the left side panel, those can often point to what’s causing the problem. You can also check this guide for more details: Troubleshoot in Figma Make → Error messages.

And since you mentioned complexity — this resource might help refine your workflow: 8 essential tips for using Figma Make. When you get a chance, take a look and let me know if any of those best practices make a difference.

Appreciate you taking the time to share these details. I’ll keep an eye out for your reply.

I’ve also encountered this problem in a recent project. After writing a prompt and Figma Make implements the change, the preview becomes unresponsive. If I try clicking on a button, nothing happens. The only thing that works is closing and restarting the Figma app, which makes it tedious to iterate on the project.

I’m not sure when it started happening, but I’m guessing after about 70-80 prompts (currently at 118). I’m using the latest version of the desktop app, and the problem also applies when using a browser (Chrome). There are no errors in the console log.

@Tom Reem

  • What kinds of prompts have you been using, and roughly how many? I’m at 63 prompts, but issues starting popping up around 53 or so. It started with the preview freezing and needing a restart to updae, to the current state where a restart doesn’t show any changes after a prompt. Not sure how to answer the “kinds of pompts”.  Usually they are descriptions of interaction behaviours or the addition/modification of controls.
  • I know you mentioned closing and reopening the Desktop App, though can you confirm you’re running version 125.9.10 or later? Using 125.9.10.
  • Can you try prompting from a browser instead of the Desktop App? Figma Make supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge. I’ve tried Chrome and Safari without any changes being visible.
  • Would you say the preview issue feels more like a lag, or an abrupt blocker? If you notice any errors in the left side panel, those can often point to what’s causing the problem. You can also check this guide for more details: Troubleshoot in Figma Make → Error messages. No lag, the prompt executes and shows no error messages, it just that the changes requested in the prompt are not reflected in the preview.
