MacOS Trackpad Scrolling Issue

When I use the MacOS trackpad to zoom in and out (by swiping up or down with two fingers), the zoom amount changes really erratically. If I start my swipe gently it will zoom in as normal, then randomly jump and become way way more magnified. It is really hard to control and is really offputting - it kept happening in a demo in front of my team. Help welcome - I know this has been a reported issue before (4 yrs ago) but I don’t know why it’s come back!  Thanks - Daniel
