Lost access to team project after removing user

Hello Figma Support,

I’m reaching out because our team lost access to a Figma project after removing a user from our Professional plan.

The project is no longer visible to any team admin in the file browser, All Projects, Trash, deleted files, or Unassigned drafts. However, when we try to open the direct link, we receive an access error. Multiple admins have checked and none of us can see or recover the project from the UI.

We previously had access to this project, so we need help from Figma Support to investigate the ownership/access history and help us recover access.

Could someone from the support team please review this issue and let us know what information you need from us to proceed?

Thank you,
Federico Stampini

Hey @Federico Stampini — thanks for checking in here, and sorry for the trouble with the project access.

I've flagged this with our Product Support team, who are reviewing it now under case number: 2012722. They'll follow up with you directly by email with next steps and anything they need from your side.

In the meantime, this article on what happens to files and projects when a team member is removed may help explain the behavior: Remove access to teams — removing a member makes any projects they owned ownerless. In most cases, a team owner or admin can recover an ownerless project by opening it in the file browser and clicking Join as Owner — but that only works while the project is still visible there. Since it isn't showing up for any of your admins, that's the piece Support will dig into.

Thanks for your patience, and we will follow up with you with more clarity and next steps as soon as possible.
