I am using Figma Design on desktop with the Education plan. In Dev Mode, under MCP, I only see the remote MCP option and do not see local MCP. I want confirmation on whether local MCP is available for Education users or if this is expected behavior.

We recently simplified the MCP section in Dev Mode to lead with the remote MCP server, so "Enable desktop MCP server" was replaced by "Connect to AI agent." That rolled out at the end of July, so what you're seeing is expected. Please know that the remote server works on all seats and plans and is the one we recommend, since it has the broadest feature set. Setup guide →
Two quick questions: Is there something specific you need the desktop server for or were you following a guide that mentioned it? And which MCP client are you using (VS Code, Cursor, Claude Code)?
On Education specifically, the desktop server requires a Dev or Full seat on a paid plan. Hope this helps explain!

Hi, experiencing the same issue. My answer for your question: I’m just gonna replace a new font that is stored in my local computer, which cannot be accomplished using only remote server. I’m using Codex desktop.
