Loading-State-Redirection to first page makes figma unusable

Lately when having a figma file open, that is comprised of several pages , I suddenly (or randomly) get a “Loading” state on the screen, that redirects me to the very first page of the figma file after a moment. That means the designs, I am working with, cannot be watched for the duration I would need to effectively work with figma.

I enjoyed using Figma for a very long time, but this gets me incredibly frustrated, because it wastes so much of my time.

Hi @Kjell Sandkuhl,

I understand you're experiencing an issue where, while working in a file with several pages, you suddenly get a "Loading" state that redirects you to the very first page.

I haven't been able to replicate this issue so far, and I haven't found any similar reports, but I want to help.

First, to cover the basics, please double-check that your device has a reliable internet connection.

Also, please try these quick fixes:

  • Close any Figma tabs you're not actively using.
    • Browser: Force-quit your browser and open Figma in a new browser window.
    • Desktop App: Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and restart it.

If the problem still persists, to allow our team to investigate this further, please submit a bug report via this form: Submit a request. You can also refer to this guide for more details: How to submit a bug report.

When you submit, please include the following information and this forum post URL in your report:

  • Is this happening only in your browser, only in the desktop app, or in both?
  • Is this issue happening in a specific file, or are you seeing it across all your Figma files? If it's happening in a specific file, please share the URL of that file and grant edit access to support-share@figma.com. (granting this access will not impact your billing.)

This will help us reproduce and investigate the problem more effectively.

Thanks,

Same Issue

Key Information:

1. This Figma file contains multiple pages.

2. Other members are editing another page.

Trigger Process:

1. I stay and view on Page A.

2. Another member edits another Page B, and saved it.

3. My page shows a loading state, and after loading, it returns to the first page.

For me it has been fixed, because I’m at least staying on the same page now, after loading is done.

This keeps distracting me, too.
I use Figma desktop app on Mac.

Figma is open in fullscreen mode on it’s own screen. There are 8 pages in the file I use (in Dev mode). I open page 5 and need it to stay open. Sometimes I would switch to a different screen, so Figma stays in the background. When I switch back to the screen where Figma is opened, it goes to a Loading state and then opens the page 4. Then I have to manually go back to page 5 and again zoom it in the way it was before.

I have a feeling this might somehow be connected to links. I have not really tried to confirm it, but since Figma keeps opening page 4 for me, which is not “the first” page in the file, I’m guessing that it keeps opening the page I have previously opened via the link someone shared with me.

Hi all, thanks for reporting this issue and sorry it’s such a pain.

I’m looking into this and more data could help. If you’ve noticed this behavior recently, could you send me a private message (click on my name) with the following:

  1. the email address you use to log into Figma
  2. the time (down to the minute if possible) you notice this happen, along with your timezone
  3. a URL to the file
  4. the browser (including version) that you’re using, or whether you’re using the desktop app

This will help me correlate your observations with any internal logs that we might have. Thanks!

One more question for folks experiencing this issue: are you seeing in this for files you can edit, or files you only have view permissions for?

Hi @jefflee. I’m facing with this issue too. In my case, I’m seeing this error on files I have view permission

Hey folks, we’ve been rolling out some updates that should prevent you from losing your page when you see the “Loading” state. Next time you get the chance, try restarting/reloading Figma and let us know if the page-switching issue is still happening.
