I have probably read all the answers regarding slow file issues however this is not something I have seen before and none of those answers I read solved my issue.
I was trying to create another color mode in the variables, I hit duplicate on the last one and it took Figma forever to create a duplicate of the mode. While I was waiting I hit the button again, and after about 10-15 minutes 2 modes were created, the last one however looked like it was uneditable.
I tried to delete one and every time I did that Figma froze. I tried everything from restarting my computer to shutting and restarting, clearing browser and app cache, logging out of my account both on browser and desktop, force quitting and clearing the cache on terminal, deleting figma and reinstalling. Is I forgot anything else I probably tried that too.
Nothing, Figma froze every time tried to delete. Finally, I asked my colleague to go in and do it for me. Done in a second. And I don’t think this is a slow computer issue because I have a M2 Max with 96 GB ram. My colleague’s computer although have a better chip has 48 GB ram.
Now that we were able to delete I just needed to unlink the aliases. However, it is acting very slow when I try to do any edits now in the variables. I hit the unlink button after about 4-5 seconds the action takes place. I try to put in a hex code, I hit enter, it takes 4-5 seconds to register it. It does this both on browser and desktop app, so I can’t think of anything maybe except a plugin interference?
Why might this be happening? Please help as this slows down my workflow significantly.
Hi Remzi, thanks for the detailed explanation. I can definitely see how disruptive this must be, especially after all the steps you’ve already tried!
Since the issue still persists and seems file-specific, the best next step would be to reach out to our support team so they can investigate it further: Submit a bug report
Please include:
-
The file link (and grant “can edit” access to
support-share@figma.com
) -
A brief summary of the steps you’ve taken
-
A console log if possible (how to export logs)
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Thanks for the quick reply Celine.
Yes, it is very disruptive unfortunately especially for someone like me who works like a robot when I go into design systems :)
I did what you have asked and one thing I forgot to mention is that there is also a weird issue when I make a change or more when I try to publish. It takes very long to upload, then I see the “updates have been published successfully” message at the bottom. However, the “not saved” indicator still sits there for a long time on tab. Then when that is gone and although I get the success message, it looks like I still have unpublished stuff. (though when i close and reopen the tab those are gone and looks like everything really has been published)
I guess this happens from time to time on any random file when you are uploading a large design system file, but it’s doing it all the time on this file now.
Just wanted to mention that as well
Thank you
Thanks for the additional details! I’ve shared them with our team internally.
I also located your support ticket and have escalated it on my end.
Appreciate your patience in the meantime!
