Large file upload - Crash issue

I understand that Figma crashes when you try to upload a very large file (over 1GB).

Just to confirm, are you trying to import a Figma Design (.fig) file via the file browser? If so, please note that importing very large files (especially files over 1.5GB) can cause issues.

The best option, if possible, is to access the original file and split it into multiple smaller Figma files, then import those files separately.

If you don’t have access to the original file, here are a few things you can try:

• If you haven’t already, try importing the file using the Figma desktop app, which can sometimes handle large files more reliably.
• If you mainly need the image assets, you can try renaming the .fig file to .zip and extracting it. You should be able to find the Images folder. I was also able to preview and save images by dragging files from that folder directly into a browser.

Is there any other way to acces this file ​@Junko3 I am facing a similar issue while opening it on on the desktop app...But it still doesn’t open the file...

Hey ​@malavika krishna , Celine from Figma here, stepping in with Junko3 while she's away!  Sorry to hear the desktop app isn't working for you either.

Could you try the following:

• Try opening the file in a browser or incognito window if that works, the issue may be specific to the desktop app. If you have access to the original file, the best long-term solution is to split it into smaller Figma files and import them separately as Junko3 mentioned.
• Check on a different network or try temporarily disabling your VPN/proxy

If none of these help, please submit a bug report via our Support Hub so our team can investigate further. Go to the Support Hub / type "Report a bug" / click Start a chat, and when filling out the form please include:

• The file URL
• Your OS and desktop app version
• A screenshot or screen recording of what happens when you try to open the file

Same issue here. Trying to import a Jam file that is about 850megs. It crashes Figma every single time on multiple machines. The bug is reproducible on the desktop app and in the browser.

I am doing a big migration and I no longer have access to a cloud version that I can break into smaller files. I have a years of valuable work trapped behind this bug. PLEASE fix it. This is a bug that impacts your most engaged users. 

I had a similar issue with a large design file. If Figma crashes before opening it, try accessing the file from Recent Files or Version History if it's stored in the cloud. If you can get it to open even briefly, duplicate the file first and then remove unused pages, images, or components to reduce its size. Clearing the Figma desktop app cache or opening the file in the browser can also help in some cases. I also came across a troubleshooting guide from Bizistech that recommended breaking very large projects into smaller files to improve stability, and that has worked well for me.

Hi ​@House, thanks for taking the time to share this. I'm sorry to hear this is blocking your migration, especially with so much valuable work tied up in that FigJam file.

Same issue here!!!! Tried multiple files from 30mb to 2gb, from Figma desktop to browser... .everything is in loading mode, forever. Nothing is truly loading. What’s wrong??????? I need the files ASAP

• A link to the Figma Design file shared with support-share@figma.com (this won’t affect your billing)
• An example file that does not work for you (smaller is better if you are going to attach it to your email)
• What browser and desktop app version you are using
• What OS version and computer you are using

This information will be helpful to our team when troubleshooting with you - you can just reply to the email and include it.
