Issue with color picker: hover preview no longer works + no scroll/zoom during selection

I’ve recently run into an issue with the color picker in Figma. Normally, when you hover over an area, you immediately see a live preview of the color under your cursor. That no longer seems to work: Figma only picks up the color from the spot where the picker initially lands, and the preview doesn’t update when hovering over other areas. It feels like the tool gets stuck on the first position.

On top of that, it’s no longer possible to scroll or zoom in/out while using the color picker. The scroll/zoom action only happens after selecting a color, almost like there’s a delay.

The correct color is still applied in the end, but the workflow becomes quite inconvenient. This clearly feels like a bug, so I hope it can be resolved soon.

Hey Anouk, thanks for reaching out and for the sharing the screen recording, that's really helpful!

This does look like a bug we're tracking on our end. The live hover preview in the color picker getting stuck, and scroll/zoom being blocked during selection, are symptoms we've seen reported on the Figma desktop app specifically.

In the meantime, here are a couple of options to keep you moving:

  1. Switch to the browser for any colour picking work
  2. Type your values directly (HEX or RGB) in the desktop app to skip the picker entirely

We've gone ahead and raised a support ticket for you. Your ticket number is Ticket #1954434. Someone from the team will be in touch to follow up from there.

Thank you for your patience in the meantime!

I’ve encountered the same issue of scrolling & zooming when using the eyedropper. Sometimes the zoom starts normally and then freezes. The problem seemed to have started after I enabled the “sample colors from anywhere” on screen feature. However, even I turned off the system permission for this feature, the issue still persists.

Hi, @Roy Cheung. Thanks for your reply - this is definitely a weird issue!

What version of the Figma Desktop app are you using and with what operating system? I’m on mac OS 26.5.1 and using the newest version of the desktop app, v126.6.9. If you are using an older version, can you try updating to the newest? I tried the same behavior in your screen recording but couldn’t get it to freeze or stop.

Oh, one other question: how are you scrolling? Is it with a scroll wheel on a mouse, or are you holding down CMD and using the trackpad/mouse? It’s likely this is the bug that @Gayani_S referenced, but I want to get a bit more info and see if we can find a solution for you in the meantime.
