[Issue] Inconsistent values between text styles and variables.

I understand you're seeing a discrepancy where the font size shown in the text style properties is different from the applied number variable. I tested this on my end but wasn't able to replicate the same issue.

If you haven't tried yet, could you please try the following to see if it resolves the problem?

• Browser: Force-quit your current session and try opening Figma in a new browser window.
• Desktop app: Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and then restart it.

If the issue persists, please check the following for us:

• What happens if you re-set that specific variable?
• Do other variables display correctly?
• Was that variable created in that file, or is it from a library file?
• Does the display in the Libraries picker match what you see in the Variables modal, or is it different?

This information will help us understand exactly what you're seeing in more detail and how we can best assist you.

Bug Report for Figma: Variable Font Size Display Mismatch

I'm still encountering a persistent issue related to font size display and number variables, even after following the troubleshooting steps you previously suggested:

• I've force-quit both the browser and desktop app sessions and restarted.

• I've re-set the affected variable.

• I've verified that other variables display correctly.

• I've confirmed the variable is created within the file (not from an external library).

• The Libraries Picker and Variables modal display the same values.

However, the problem persists.

🔍 Description of the Issue:

There seems to be a discrepancy between the displayed font size in the Text Style properties and the actual number variable value assigned in different modes.

For example:

• In Mode A, the header text size is set to 17.

• In Mode B, the header text size is set to 18.

But when I apply the variable to a text element and switch to Mode B, the Text Style panel still shows 17 instead of 18. It appears that the displayed value is stuck to the first mode (Mode A), and doesn't update based on the currently active mode.

This creates confusion when managing designs with multiple modes (e.g., for themes, devices, or brands), as the text style panel doesn't accurately reflect the live value from the active mode.

✅ Expected Behavior:

When switching modes, the font size shown in the Text Style properties should reflect the value assigned to the variable in the active mode, not the default or initial mode.

​@Junko3 This issue has been around since typography started supporting variables. The issue is also apparent in color styles bound to variables. The thumbnail preview is always the value for the default mode. Is there any fix for this in site?

I also have this problem!

Please make it so font sizes in the right hand palette reflect then current font size instead of the default/initial size.

It’s annoying to disconnect/reconnect to verify the font size.

Are you seeing this in Figma Sites or Figma Design? It sounds a bit like a previous issue that was fixed for Figma Sites, so I want to understand if this is ultimately the same thing or just a related issue.

This is in Figma Design, specifically when you have variables and modes handling font resizing for different viewports.
