Question

Is it bug or why?

I can’t figure out how to fix this issue. Over the last two months, it has happened 2–3 times that the text styles in my canvases suddenly change. The letter spacing switches from 0.42 (our standard style) to –1.52 (I have no idea why this value appears).

I can fix it by resetting the instance or manually reapplying the style, but the problem keeps happening.

We use a custom company font, and all three designers on our team have the same font version installed. Only designers have edit permissions, and the styles seem to change randomly — once it happened while I was just viewing the frame, and other times when I wasn’t even working in the file.

Could anyone help with this? Thanks!

All our text styles are based on variables, including the letter spacing (see attached)

And the problem looks like

I know the problem and solution, that’s funny

To write “,” in russian on my keyboard I use control + option + < and Figma use that like hotkey to decrease letter spacing, even I write “,” in comments / publishing notes

Please add function to change hotkeys or turn off, because now I can only use different way to type “,”

Hey @Alexandr Scorolitnii!

Thanks for your post, and thank you for doing so much investigation! Is typing control + option + < the standard way on most Russian keyboards to type an English comma? I wasn’t sure if this was a special text shortcut you made or common to Cyrillic keyboards.

Actually, one thing you could do is set up a text shortcut that doesn’t use the same key combinations as Figma. While it’s not the same as what you’re asking, it’ll provide you a way to do it that doesn’t involve undoing the text change. If you’re using Mac OS, you can do this with text replacements. It doesn’t seem like there’s as quick a solution in Windows, though there might be third party tools that do that.

Not sure is it the standard method or most frequent. But on my keyboard (without numpad) and Mac OS I have two options: shift+6 and control + option + <. Of course I start to use shift version.

But I’m not sure, is that okay if that shortcut apply to any layer on the page even I write comment (sometimes) or publish components with notes using “,”? I think we can apply that shortcut only when I select text layer and it will be fine.

I attached a video example case

Also maybe do not apply changes if you use text style and also based on variables (letter spacing too in my case)? One more idea
