This might be a unique problem but worth the shot:
Context:
We use figma to create in-product marketing materials. We’ve set up templates to create full sets of materials with the same creative. It doesn’t really make sense to make a library, so we have a Template file with a full set of assets, and components we can easily update. The team then just copies the whole template set (master components and everything) and pastes it in the file they’re working on.
As a side note: Yes, we’re exploring moving this process to Buzz but so far we find the features too limited (it’s not really component friendly for example, you have to update instances manually instead of allowing it to happen on the panel where you update everything else).
Problem:
Sometimes we have to paste the component multiple times in the same file (in new pages for a new promotion for example). Lately we’ve noticed that when we’ve already used one template and we paste a new copy, the nested text component (and sometimes some of the other components) will automatically link to the master component in the previous project we used that template on. It seems to be kinda random (or at least we can’t figure out what guides the relinking).
We’ve found a workaround, at least for the text unlinking, is to change the text before making the copy from the Template file. If we do that, it stays connected properly when pasting in the new file. It’s an easy enough fix but feels almost superstitious when we don’t know why this is happening :/
