Question

Importing images on macOS imports them in the reverse order

I need images imported in the order of newest image first not newest image last

Who the heck wants newest image last in a batch of 215???

This wastes a huge amount of my time every single time I have to do a study of something like an app or a website because I just spend hours pointlessly rearranging them back to newest 1st

We have modern technology in 2026 - perhaps I shouldnt have to do this every single time?

Hi @Thunderbolt 7, thanks for flagging this issue!

I completely understand how this must be slowing down your workflow. Re-sorting 215 images by hand is a real drain, and I'd be frustrated too. A couple of quick questions, so I can pass this onto our team accurately:

  • Are you dragging the files in from Finder, or using Place image/video (⇧⌘K)?
  • What sort order do you have Finder set to when you select the batch? Date Added, newest first, etc.?

One thing worth trying in the meantime: flip the sort direction in Finder before selecting. Because Figma drops the batch in reverse of the selection order, sorting oldest → newest should land them on canvas newest-first. Not a fix, but it may save you the manual pass.

To be upfront with you: choosing the placement order isn't something Figma supports today. It's a long-standing gap rather than something that recently broke. More on bulk placement here if it's useful: Add images and videos to designs

I’ll be sure to pass along your feedback regardless. I just want to get the specifics in order for the team when they take a closer look.

oooh yeah looks like reversing Finder date order reverses how stuff gets dropped into Figma

Makes more sense now why it works the way it does on macOS

I can see now why it may not make sense to always import by oldest first. Although I cant think of a reason someone might need to import by newest first there are probably reasons people could have for doing so.

Thanks
