It seems like on-device fonts may be broken. I am having this issue in two separate files on two separate accounts with two separate fonts.

On one account, it’s Gotham. The font styles show correctly in the dropdown, but choosing Gotham Regular renders as Gotham Bold. Bold renders as Regular. Light renders as Black. Everything is wrong.

Likewise, on a separate account, Univers is being problematic. For one, the font menu isn’t showing all the variants of Univers I have installed,  but more importantly, all extended versions have their italics and non-italics swapped, and I only have one of each present in the font dropdown. If I want to use Univers Bold Extended, it will render as Univers Bold Extended Oblique, without the oblique version even being selectable.

Is there any workaround for this other than putting the wrong font on and confusing my developers? is there a fix in the works?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out.

Generally, if editors use different versions of the same font, you may have conflicting font issues. To resolve conflicting font issues, all editors in the file need to:

Update the font

  1. Uninstall and remove the font from their computer.
  2. Download and install the font from one common source.
  3. Restart the desktop or browser app.

Update affected layers

  1. Select a layer using that font.
  2. Open the  menu or open the quick actions menu.
  3. Use Select all with same font to select all text layers with that font.
  4. Use Recompute Text Layout in Selection to reset text to the correct formatting.

If you still see the issue, could you submit a bug report detailing the steps that led to this issue? You can do so by following the link: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041468234-Submit-a-bug-report. Our support team will look into this!
