Hey!

My colleagues and I are experiencing issues with images in Figma. Images that used to appear in our files are suddenly disappearing. The image layers are still there, but the images don’t show up either in the files or in prototype preview. However, when we check the version history, the images are still visible.

Also, since this bug started, whenever I try to import new pictures, Figma shows the error message:
“An invalid image or thumbnail was removed.”

Could you please check if this is a known issue or if there’s any workaround?

Thanks!

Hi @Gabriela Casellato Carnasciali ,

I understand you and your colleagues are having trouble seeing images in your files and are receiving the error message: “An invalid image or thumbnail was removed.”

This error most commonly appears when an image or the image being uploaded is invalid or has become corrupted in some way.
This can happen for several reasons:

  • The image was never properly saved when it was first pasted or dragged into the original file.

  • The paste action failed partway through.

  • Figma’s servers can’t confirm access to the image, which may occur if you’re pasting between files in different spaces (for example, between your organization’s files and those in an external team).

For the images that are no longer appearing, could you please try the following steps:

  1. In the original file (or a version in version history where the image still appears), select the image.
  2. Switch to Dev Mode → open the Inspect panel → go to the Assets section.
  3. Click the download button next to the image preview and drag the image into your browser.
    • If the image loads there, right-click to copy it, or save and reinsert it into your file.
    • If the image doesn’t load, that indicates the original image data has been corrupted. In that case, try exporting the image layer using the Export settings at the bottom of the Properties panel, then insert it back into your file.

Thanks!

Hey! Thanks for the reply.

About the disappearing images, the whole downloading the images in Dev Mode thing worked. But, I mean, I will have to do that to all the images, in all the files that are presenting this issue? It seems a little time-consuming.

If the problem was not corrupted image data, but something else, is that an issue Figma is working on resolving?
