Images appearing as squashed even after marking as 'fill' rather than 'crop'

After resizing an image, I’ve noticed that it will often forget that I’ve marked the fill setting to ‘Fill’ but will instead revoke to the ‘crop’ setting meaning the images appear squashed. Does anyone have a solution for this?
