I need to reset my student verification limit

I’m a student at Sungkonghoe University, and since tomorrow’s club session will cover Figma, I’ve been trying to verify my Figma account since yesterday.
Since the message simply said I couldn’t verify my account without explaining why, I assumed it was just a glitch and tried several times.
As a result, I eventually reached the verification limit and can no longer verify my account.
I later found out that I need to use my school email address, but since I’ve already exceeded the authentication limit, what should I do?
I did submit an inquiry yesterday at figmasupport@sheerid.com, but since I don’t know when it will be processed, I’m getting anxious, so I’m posting here.

Hey @김동주, I’m sorry this has been so stressful!

The “Verification Limit Exceeded” message comes from SheerID, the partner that handles higher education verification for Figma. It usually means your attempts have reached the limit. SheerID is the team that can reset it, and we can’t do that from our side.

You’ve already done the most important step. Emailing figmasupport@sheerid.com is the right place, so there’s no need to send another request. Here’s what I’d do next.

  1. Reply to your original email so everything stays in one thread. Share your university name and the school-issued email address you’ll use, and mention that your first attempts used a different email.
  2. Hold off on verifying again until SheerID confirms your limit has been reset.
  3. When you retry, log in to Figma with your school-issued email address and make sure you’re not on a VPN. If your account uses a personal email, update it in your account settings first.

If SheerID tells you they can’t help, reply here or email education@figma.com with their response and a quick summary, and we’ll take a look from there.

In the meantime, you can still use Figma Design on the free Starter plan. It has some limits, but you should be able to follow along at your club session tomorrow.

This guide covers how to verify your education status and common SheerID troubleshooting: Figma for Education.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions!

Thank you for your reply.
I replied to your email, mentioning that I had already tried using an email address different from my school email, as you suggested, and included the name of the school I’m currently attending.

I need student verification because I’ll be using the DevMode feature during tomorrow’s club session.

Do I just have to wait now?

Thanks for the update!

Yes, the next step is to wait for SheerID. They’re the only team that can reset your limit, so please hold off on verifying again until they confirm. Retrying now could just add more attempts.

Unfortunately, Dev Mode isn’t available on the Starter plan.

You can still inspect designs in Figma Design on Starter. That covers viewing properties and measurements, copying code, and exporting assets. It’s not the full Dev Mode experience, but it should help you follow along if verification isn’t done in time.

You can read more about how Dev Mode access works in Dev Mode for admins.
