I got charged with free plan

Monday, I’ve created a case about the way Figma trying to charge me 3$, and I saw it from my banking app. 

Before that, the customer support literally assured me that “there will be no charges” after my plan ends on May 9th and they have cancelled my plan way before Figma tried to charge me on Monday. I literally warned you guys about this and on Wednesday, Figma charged me 3$.

I’ve paid already 5$ for the plan at the beginning, and now you’re charging me additionally 3$ for what? Seat changes or thing you guys are calling? It is not even a reason and I did not benefit from anything to pay 3$ nor I accepted any kind of charges will be made!

And you will tell me that “we do not REFUND” as well for something FIGMA decided to charge without my consent? This is literally hijacking the customer’s will with their banking informations.

I know very well that I’m not the first person who has this ridiculous experience and I cannot believe how Figma is not taking any responsibility for it.

Can you imagine that I NEED TO CANCEL MY BANK CARD in order to stop FIGMA to charge me, INSTEAD, it could be so easy if FIGMA would take responsibility and people wouldn’t have to do such thing.

I want an answer as soon as possible, it’s been 4 DAYS for such important topic.

Hey, Celine from the Figma Community Support team here, thanks for reaching out and I completely understand your frustration. I'm sorry for the confusion this has caused.

I can confirm that your subscription has been successfully cancelled. Regarding the $3 charge, I wanted to clarify what happened: at the end of your billing period, any seats added before the plan downgrade are prorated and reflected on the final invoice (from 9th May). This is likely what generated the additional $3 charge, it wasn't a new subscription charge, but a prorated adjustment from before your cancellation took effect. I’m honestly pretty frustrated right now. I changed my seat to “View Only” because I couldn’t use any community plugins, I don’t know the reason, I was trying to figure that out. Then, when I tried to actually use a plugin, it told me I need to switch to a Full Seat in order to USE PLUGINS. 

“Oh, are you trying to use Plugins? You can use Plugins if you switch to FULL SEAT so we can charge you for something part of Starter-Free plan. We will not advise you to switch to your main plan though” 

Manipulation at its finest.

I’ve used a ton of software in my life, but Figma’s seat system is easily the most confusing and poorly explained one I’ve ever seen. It feels like it was designed to trick people just like Adobe’s.

And the best part? I got charged $3 with literally zero warning. No email, no in-app notification, nothing. If I hadn’t randomly checked my billing, I would’ve never known. Literally silent robbing customer. And I’m still not certain about what Im charged for, funny part.

I do not have further things to say.


This message is to whatever department is responsible for designing such terrible Plans and Seats. I will never ever pay Figma until this problem resolved.

I hear you and I'm sorry for the confusion and frustration, this is definitely not the experience we want for you.

I checked internally with the team to understand what happened: it appears that switching your seat to "View Only" is what triggered the plugin restriction, as View Only seats have limited access to certain features including plugins. On the free Starter plan you should normally have access to community plugins, but the View Only permission overrode that, which caused the confusing notification asking you to upgrade to a Full seat. Regarding the $3 charge, our support agent has already provided more context on this directly in your ticket today. I'd encourage you to check your inbox for their reply as it should help clarify exactly what happened.
