How to view notification for library updates in File tab?

It definitely is important to keep everything up-to-date, so I can understand why you want the same kind of visibility with the new left nav bar. To be clear, you’re looking for the same type of notification on the new icon as you saw before when it was a separate tab?

Yes.

From the File tab, a visual indicator for library updates.

On click, launch the updates dialog. 

Without having to switch tabs. 

Going to the Assets tab to grab a component is different from working on a design file, or updating a branched library. 

Too often, design and library updates are made without realizing there're existing components pending updates. 

The blue instance update indicator in the Properties panel only applies to that component. Not all component updates. 

I truly hope there will be a fix for this. 

I support this problem as well. Is very annoying now, has added me extra clicks and friction with the latest update regarding this.

Just noticed that the Libraries button is now available in the global menu at the bottom left hand corner. 

This fixes my issue!

Has this button always been there? 

​@Bing_Tay thanks for pointing that out. I haven’t noticed, I’m sure it wasn’t there before so probably they added it in a recent update. Solves my issue as well. 

Edit: Seems that it only appears visible if there are updates available

After some asking and playing around, I realized that the Libraries button disappears when there’re no updates applicable. 

Well, for me it’s a high priority function, so not expecting it to ever disappear. 

Even when it appears, it’s not really noticeable on a 2560 display.

The behavior is also inconsistent. Sometimes, randonly, when I’m working on a library file with updates to push, the button doesn’t appear.

Very strange. Still need to go to Assets tab manually. So don’t trust that button too much!

I’m experiencing the same. 
And on top of it, the description that is added in the library when publishing changes is no longer shown in the design files.

To close the loop, the Libraries icon at the bottom of the sidebar is intended to be an update indicator, showing up when there are library updates to review. That said, you're flagging real issues that our team is already aware of (inconsistent appearance, easy to miss at the bottom of the screen away from the other icons, etc.).

While I don't have an exact roadmap or timeline to share, what I can tell you is the team is actively discussing how to make this more reliable and discoverable, including options like a notification dot on the Assets icon itself. Nothing's been decided or scheduled yet, but I'll keep this thread updated if that changes.

Lastly, on the publish description no longer showing in design files:

1. Can you confirm whether the description used to show up somewhere and has since stopped, or whether you mean it's not persisted anywhere for teammates who weren't the first to open/accept the update? 

If it's the latter, this is actually a known, long-standing limitation others have raised before. If it’s the former, please let me know, and we can flag it to the team to investigate.
