Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Figma under an Educator plan, but I’m no longer eligible and I’d like to switch back to a regular plan.

Additionally, I now want to transfer all my files and projects to another existing Figma account (not just downgrade the current one).

Is there a recommended way to:

  1. Transfer ownership of all files and team projects to another Figma account I already own?

  2. Make sure I don’t lose access to any important files or lose shared permissions?

  3. Close or downgrade the Educator account cleanly afterward?

Any help or step-by-step guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Best,

Axel

Hey @Axel - Horasis! A couple of things I want to touch base on:

You’re on a solo educator plan, correct? You’re not part of a greater institution that you have your Figma projects/files sitting in? Asking because there are likely admins/owners of projects you’ll need to work with to make any trasnfers.

Depending on the files you have shared with you, your permissions may be altered (and your visibility on certain files changed) On my end, I can’t confirm if that may happen (I don’t have the access or ability to do so for security purposes).

You don’t need to do anything regarding downgrading your education account -- education status ends 2 years after your first initial acceptance day, so you can just let it naturally expire 😁

We have this help page as well that covers more info on the transfer process: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/10250387712407-Transfer-a-project-or-team-to-a-different-account
