Hi @Ethan Alexander — welcome to the Figma Forum, and thanks for surfacing this. I’d love to better understand what you’re running into so we can point you in the right direction.

Appreciate the screenshot you shared. Are you looking to collapse layers within the sidebar? When you get a chance, could you reply with a bit more detail on what you’re experiencing? For example — is the lag tied to file loading, zooming and panning, or certain types of edits? Knowing more about when the slowdown kicks in will help us narrow it down.

If you're open to it, our Technical Quality team can also take a closer look at the file itself. You can start that process by filling out this form and including:

  1. a link to the file where this is happening
  2. edit access granted to support-share@figma.com for the impacted file
  3. a screen recording showing the issue in action.

Thanks again, and we’ll keep an eye out for your reply.

@Tom Reem Hey, as you can see in the screenshot below, there are 2 different types of layer views.

The new updated version that has larger and more detailed icons, and the old version.

What I noticed is my Figma lags with the new updated version, I know this because I tested it on my old laptop where Figma isn’t updated yet and by hiding the layer UI and the lag will go away completely.

Going back to the my first question. Is there a way to change back to the old UI?

The lag comes from selecting and moving objects: layers will take half a second to select and moving objects are delayed. The whole app becomes extremely laggy and impossible to work in.

The only way around this is to hide/unhide the layer UI completely when I'm working.

Hey @Ethan Alexander — thanks for clarifying and sharing those screenshots, I see what you mean.

While there isn’t a way to revert to the previous UI, I want to make sure we’re properly addressing the lag you’re experiencing. I’ve gone ahead and opened a ticket on your behalf with our Technical Quality team so they can take a closer look.

When you have a moment, please check your inbox for an email from me (case number: 1443440) with the next steps. Replying there will allow us to dig in further.

Really appreciate your patience as we work to get this sorted out!

Did you try to switch to Design mode instead of a Draw?
