How to publish a figma made tool with Organization?

The new feature to create plugins directly in figma is great, but I want to share these plugins/tools with my team but can’t find a way to do it. Plus, searching for it only leads me to the standard flow to publish plugins, which does not work for in-figma built tools.

So, how can I publish a figma made tool with Organization?

Hey there, thanks for reaching out in the Figma Forum! To answer your question, publishing generative plugins privately to your Organization is planned for the coming months, stay tuned! 🙂

In the meantime, generative plugins live in your ‘Tools’ entry point in the Left Rail and are available across all your own design files. Please also note that if you run a plugin in a file and then share access to that file with others, they will be able to see your plugins when selecting layers where the tool has run.

Does that mean the tool is hosted locally and no one else in the team or organization can use it for now?

Second this. Publishing to organization would be great.

Why was sharing these with your team not added as basic functionality, surely this is half the reason for creating plugins that fill use case for you and your team.

I have been able to share plugins with my team if they are working on the same file. But only, if built in that file!

Thanks everyone for the feedback and great questions!
To clarify, generative plugins aren't hosted locally on your machine. They're written and run directly inside your Figma file. They live in the root of the file and on the layers they edit or create. When you share the file, the generative plugin travels with it, so anyone with access to that file can use it there.

This is different from classic plugins, which are built locally using the Figma Desktop App and a development environment (such as VS Code or Cursor), and can then be published to the Figma Community for others to discover and use.

At the moment, there isn't a way to publish generative plugins privately across your Organization. As mentioned above, support for private Organization publishing is planned for the coming months.
Thanks again for sharing your feedback, I’ve shared internally to the team. It really helps us understand how you'd like to collaborate with these tools 🙂
