I’m experiencing a sudden bug in Figma, help!

Context:
I use a Wacom pen to pan around the canvas in Figma by holding the spacebar and dragging the pen across the tablet. Previously, pressing the spacebar would temporarily switch to pan mode and return to selection mode when released.

Problem:
Now, when I release the spacebar, Figma stays stuck in pan mode. I have to click multiple times with my mouse to exit it, and even then, it only works intermittently. Additionally, the blue selection box remains active when trying to select assets.

This issue started happening out of the blue with no known changes on my end.

Hi @Saul Logan,

Thanks for reporting this! I understand you’re experiencing issues when using your Wacom with Figma, and that selection behavior isn’t working as expected.

It looks like you’ve run into a known, long-standing bug that our engineering team is aware of. Unfortunately, we don’t have a short-term fix at the moment, but we are actively tracking this issue.

From the YouTube video you shared, it seems the problem is happening in the Figma desktop app on macOS.
Could you confirm whether the same behavior occurs in any of the supported browsers as well?

I’ll go ahead and add your details to our internal bug report so our engineering team can continue investigating. While we’re not able to provide an immediate solution, please know that this issue is on our radar, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

Thanks again!

Thanks @Junko3

You’re right I’m using MasOS and the Figma Desktop app.

In Chrome
I’ve just tested if the same thing is happening in Chrome. The bug acts slightly different where I can pan around a little more freely, however when pressing spacebar and hovering my Wacom pen over the tablet (without touching it) the pan function stays active. Normally panning would be activated only when your pen touches the tablet itself, not when you just hover over it.

In Safari
Seems to work ok at the moment, but will let you know if anything pops up.

Appreciate the team looking into it!

Hi there,

I’m also having the exact same issue as Saul while using my Wacom tablet. Seems to have only become an issue within the last month or so. Others in my team are complaining of their mouse being very laggy too, but neither are an issue when using the trackpad. I wonder if this is a related issue?

Thank you in advance!

@Junko3 hi again! 😂

I’ve just had the same issue as Lucy above with my mouse also, I can’t pan around with a mouse or make a selection in some instances - I’m reduced to working on a trackpad. This is in the Desktop app on MacOS.

Cheers!

Hi @Saul Logan and @LucyCharlotte

Thanks for the additional info! I’ll go ahead and update the internal report with what you’ve shared.

Just to clarify — the internal bug I mentioned is specifically related to Wacom tablet/stylus issues. So if you or your teammates are also experiencing mouse lag, we’d love to understand that better, as it may be a separate issue.

If the problem continues and you're open to it, please consider reporting it through this secure form so our team can take a closer look: https://figma.bot/submitreport

If possible, it would be incredibly helpful to include a screen recording that demonstrates the issue — similar to the YouTube video shared earlier by @Saul Logan ✨
You can also refer to this guide for more on how to submit a detailed bug report: Submit a bug report

This will help us investigate the issue more effectively.

Thanks again for your patience and help!

Thanks @Junko3! Appreciate your replies.

I’ll pass that onto the team, so expect some messages shortly.

Kind regards,
Lucy

Hey @Junko3

I’m also having the same issue as Saul, but when I’m using a mouse. Having some issues trying to select or move objects in the file. Seems to be really sporadic when it decides to make the selection, but works perfectly when using the trackpad.

I’m using the desktop app on MacOS.

I’ve added a screen recording that hopefully explains it.

Cheers,
Flynn
