HELP A BEGINNER - ENTERING TEXT IN TEXTBOX DOES NOT WORK

HELP

I’m trying to to create and type in a textbox as usual but it does not work: 

1. Clicking T (Text)
2. Drag until desired size
3. Type

At step 3, when typing it doesn’t let me type but rather activates shortcuts.
