Github Integration Not Working

Happy holidays!  I’ve opened a ticket (1653026 ) for this on the 23rd but still haven’t heard back from anyone.  I know the holidays are slow, but need some help.  Hoping someone is out there monitoring this.

I think Make's integration with Github is broken, or at the very least the support team needs to look into why the Create repository feature keeps erroring out for us (I keep getting "could not create repository"). I tried to push to Github last week before doing my code review, and it wasn't working then. I just tried again after deleting and re-establishing Make as a recognized App in our Github org, and I get the same error. I confirmed that we're following the right steps in https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/35463818346647-Push-from-Figma-Make-to-GitHub.

I read a KB article that indicates that Make can only push to a repo it creates, and can only push to the main branch -- both kind of surprising limitations that I think. Is that right?

Hey @trimmr-LG  - thank you for checking in, and sorry that you’ve been waiting a while! It’s as you mentioned: due to the holidays, we are currently managing a higher volume of support tickets.

I did see your ticket, and I’m going to try to see if I can get is escalated for review. I can’t guarantee the exact window of time you’ll receive a response, but our technical quality team will get back to you as soon as they can. Thank you for your patience with us 🙏🏻

I’m having the same issue, sadly, if I cannot make Github integration work, the full seat is not a justifiable option for me moving forward.

i’d like to know the timeline as I will have to use a workaround with my AI assistant since the push to github messes up my directories - glad that the credits are not enforced right now because I feel like a guinea pig for sure! Love what we can create…. just need to know if the big picture will work without too many workarounds.

@ksn I am having the same issue as well.

Hey All, sorry for the lack of acknowledgment here!

Ksn is currently out of the office, but I’d be happy to help pick this up where she left off.

With a few more details, I can help you get connected with our support team. Please note the following limitations when using the GitHub Integration:

  • Figma Make can only push to repositories it creates itself. You can't push to existing GitHub repos you've created manually
  • When you push from Make, changes always go to the main branch. Branch management isn't currently supported

If you are experiencing the "could not create repository" error, can you confirm the following:

  1. Are you getting any specific error messages beyond "could not create repository"?
  2. When you re-established the connection, did you ensure the Figma GitHub app was authorized for the repositories you want Figma Make to access?
  3. Can you share a screen recording of the issue?
