Friends can't edit in Moodboard

I have a shared Moodboard with a friends so we can work on a project, but now she can’t interact with the moodboard anymore, besides looking at it. Last week we we’re both able to add stuff to the moodboard.

When she tries to do anything in the board, she gets this message, shown in the screenshot below.

She isn’t a student anymore, but I am.
This wasn’t the case last week, we we’re able to work together just fine. Was this really changed out of bloom? That sucks if it is the case

Hi @Flory, thanks for reaching out!

I understand how this must be slowing down your collaboration, so I appreciate you sharing the screenshot!

As shown in the error message, this is happening because editing requires her to have verified Education (EDU) status. Since your friend's student status is no longer active, she's been shifted to view-only access. This isn't a bug, it's tied to Figma's EDU verification requirements. A couple of quick questions, so I can point you to the right fix:

  1. Is this Moodboard file currently living in an EDU team or in a personal/free file?
  2. Is your friend still a student? If so, has she tried to re-verify, or does she just need a non-EDU workaround?

In the meantime, here's what usually resolves it fastest:

  • If she no longer qualifies for EDU, she can be added as a collaborator on a non-EDU (Starter/Pro) file instead. Duplicate the Moodboard file into a personal team and share from there, and she should get full edit access regardless of her student status.
  • If the team/file was recently downgraded due to re-verification, moving the file to a plan that doesn't require EDU status for all editors will also unblock her.

Let me know which setup you're using, and we’ll do our best to help her editing again!

  1. No, the Moodboard is not in an EDU team. I only have a school project if I check those. The one I want to work with my friend on is a personal file.
  2. She just needs a non-EDU workaround, since it’s a personal project.

For the time being, I duplicated the project on a new moodboard, have to see if it works

Thanks for the additional context, @Flory!

Hopefully the duplicate works out for you, but please let me know if you continue to have issues. Depending on where you duplicated the file into, we can continue troubleshooting, if needed.

Just let us know whose account (yours or hers) and which team it lives within. The easiest fix is to have her create her own free Starter team, duplicate the board there, and invite you as an editor. That should keep it fully outside your Student plan and free for both of you going forward.

Let us know how the new copy is looking, and we'll help troubleshoot further, if she's still stuck!
