Question

Font weights not working - extremely buggy

I set a textbox to a font and then change the weight. It either won’t apply the new weight or will jump to the previous textbox. It’s crazy buggy. Never had Figma be so buggy.

Hi @jenshet

I understand that you’re experiencing an issue with changing font weights.

I just tested this on my side, and changing font weights seems to be working as expected for me.

To help us troubleshoot further, could you please share a few more details?

  • Which product are you using when you see this issue — Figma Design?
  • Does this happen in the browser, in the desktop app, or in both?
  • Could you tell us the font name and which weights you’re switching between (for example, changing “Inter” from Regular to Bold)?
  • It would also be super helpful if you could share a short video or screenshots showing the issue, including the full Figma screen.

This information will help us better understand what you’re seeing and how we can assist you most effectively.

Thanks,

I’m using Figma Design in the desktop app with the latest update.

I select a textbox which is using Trade Gothic Next Heavy, the weight dropdown says “Select a...”. I click it and select Medium but it doesn’t change it, it stays in Heavy and the dropdown still says “Select a...”. Sometimes it even skips to a previous selected textbox after that.

Hi there,

Thanks for following up!

It seems that “Trade Gothic” is a custom font, and while “Instrument Sans” is part of Google Fonts, the “Black” weight doesn’t appear to be included natively with Figma — so it’s likely a custom font as well.

In this case, these kinds of font issues are often caused by conflicting font files being used across your team.

This means that editors working on the same file may be using different versions of the font, with slight differences in sizing or spacing, which can affect how the file appears each time it’s opened by someone using a different version.

You can find more information about resolving this type of issue here: Manage conflicting fonts

We recommend that all editors remove the affected fonts if they’re installed locally. Then, please have everyone reinstall the same version of the font. After doing so, restart Figma to ensure the correct font version is applied.

If the above doesn’t apply, or if you still need more help after checking those steps, I recommend reaching out to our team directly through this secure form: Submit a request

When submitting your request, please include the following information:

  • A screen recording of the issue showing the full Figma screen

  • The URL of the affected file in the recording and add support-share@figma.com as an Editor to the file (this won’t affect your billing) If this is your first time sharing with us, make sure we have a Full Seat in your team: Manage seats in Figma

This information and access will help our team investigate the issue more effectively.

Thanks,

Respectfully @Junko3 that’s likely not it. It’s happening with many of the fonts I use - it’s likely on Figma’s end because I did nothing with my fonts and then the recent update happened and that’s when all the issues started. I’m a contractor at a large corporation and asking thousands of users to uninstall fonts that are local to our machines doesn’t make sense.

Sofia Llaguno

I am having the exact same issue. I have to restart Figma every time I want to use a different weight on a different font than the previously used.

I am having the same problem. It is annoying to reload Figma every time I want to choose another weight with new font style. Like for everybody else here, It started after the last update.

I hope they’ll fix this problem soon

I am having the same issue, it’s very annoying. I am a solo creator, working in browser, no local fonts whatsoever, plain new project and this still happening with the basic fonts.

I’m facing the same issue, whenever I change a font weight, it doesn’t apply. I’ve also tried switching to a different font, but the font weights from the first font still appear under the second one I selected.

This is so annoying!

Same issue here, can’t change the font weight properly using the Desktop app.

Jacobus Schieke

I’ve been having the same bug since the update. Like others mentioned - font weights from a previous font appear from the dropdown even after it’s changed.

I have the same problem. For example, with the Montserrat and Inter fonts. It's extremely frustrating
