Font weights don’t update after switching fonts

I’ve run into a strange issue in Figma. Every time I launch the app and click on a text layer, it seems to “remember” that font’s predefined weights. Then, when I try to edit another text with a different font, the weight options from the first font are still displayed. If I try to change the weight, nothing happens.

For instance, if I open Figma, select a text with the SF Pro font, and then create a new text layer using Comic Sans, the weight list still shows SF Pro’s options. Has anyone experienced something like this? And if so, is there any known fix?

FYI, I’ve already tried reinstalling Figma, editing in the web version, and working in a different draft but the problem still remains. Moreover, it looks like all my drafts and projects were affected, so creating a new draft and trying it there doesn’t help either.

Hi everyone — good news. Our engineering team identified the cause of this issue and rolled out a fix. ✅

💡 Please reload the tab you’re working in, and font weights should now behave as expected.

Thanks again for your patience while we worked on this, and don’t hesitate to let us know if you notice anything else.

I am having the same problem. It is annoying to reload Figma every time I want to choose another weight with new font style. It started after the last update.

I haven’t been able to find any solution either. So, I hope they’ll fix this problem soon

Hey @Artem Rudoi and @Nadya_artj — welcome to the Figma Forum, and thanks for flagging this and taking the time to troubleshoot. I tried to replicate this font behavior on my end but wasn’t able to catch the same issue you’ve described.

To help narrow things down, could you confirm a few details?

  • If you’re using the Figma Desktop App, is it version 125.8.9 or later?
  • If you’re using Figma in a browser, which browser and version are you running?
  • Does this only happen with the specific fonts mentioned above, or with any font you try switching to?
  • Lastly, which language is set for the file you’re working in?

Once we have this info, we’ll be able to take a closer look. I’ll keep watch for your updates and share any new findings as they come up. Thank you again for helping us track this down!

Checking in again as I was able to touch base with our Technical Quality team. They were able to replicate the issue and have escalated it to our engineering team for review.

💡 In the meantime, we’ve found that clicking away from the text box and reapplying the font (instead of reloading the tab) should get things working as expected.

We’re keeping watch on this issue and will follow up here as soon as any new updates come through. Thanks for bringing this to our attention and for your patience.
