Font weight is changing when editing text

Hi there. Since this morning I've had a problem with font weights in Figma. When I edit the text in a layer, the weight changes on its own, but the weight shown in the right-hand panel (the specs) doesn't update to match. So the displayed weight and the actual rendered weight are out of sync.

  • It started this morning with no changes on my end (no plugin updates, no font reinstalls that I'm aware of).
  • Font: Red Hat Display
  • It happens on one specific file of this project
  • I'm on: Desktop app on Windows

Has anyone else run into this? Is it a known issue right now?

I think the issue is resolved. The problem was that the font was installed locally on my laptop and available as a shared font in Figma, so Figma was pulling from two sources at once. The "bold" version that rendered correctly was actually the old locally installed file. The thinner one was the correct, current font.

I've now removed the local font from my laptop and am using only the uploaded custom font in Figma. Since then the rendering has been consistent across the file.

Solved be restarting Figma, closing the file and reopening the file.

    Thanks for coming back to let us know! I'm glad to hear that restarting Figma and reopening the file resolved the issue.

    It's possible this was a temporary sync issue, but if you notice the font weight mismatch happening again, please let us know. If it does reoccur, it would also be helpful if you could share a screen recording so we can take a closer look.

    Hi there! I’m reopening this topic as I’ve identified the likely cause of the issue.

    When I work with an agent (for example, the Figma agent) and it modifies text, the font weight appears thinner than expected. Interestingly, the issue is resolved as soon as I click into or edit the affected text box manually.

    The problem is that I currently have to do this for every text box that has been modified by the agent, which is quite time-consuming.

    Is there a way to refresh or re-render the affected text automatically, or otherwise resolve the font-weight issue without having to manually click/edit each text box?

    Hey ​@melvinvanoosten 👋 With issues like this where something appears one way and then “corrects” itself, having a screen recording is a great place to start troubleshooting with. “Seeing” the issue happening something commonly requested by support. And if this is a case where asking you to do that would cause you to consume credits, I don’t want that. Let me know and we’ll look at how best to get you supported. —Jaycee
