Hi all,
I’m writing here to find some assistance or potentially a solution to a bug with figma design. After yesterday’s config announcements and updates on Figma App, I started experiencing extreme lag when copying specific complex components or pages/sections that include such components. My workflow includes multiple (Ctrl+C) copying commands and when I hit copy Figma freezes for about 20-30+ seconds (until it’s copied to clipboard). I didn’t have this problem before the update yesterday. (May 7)
I tested everything - clearing cache, resetting the app, moving main components to different pages, trying figma in multiple browsers (I usually use the Windows App) - nothing works.
The file has around 900+ variables and numerous main components. The memory usage of the file is at 14% and that shouldn't be an issue.
I notice when I duplicate with Ctrl+D it works normally or when dragging a component to copy it while holding Alt, however just the Ctrl+C command makes figma freezes/lag and I assume it’s an issue with the ‘Copy to Clipboard’ background process.
This is critically slowing my process, and I would love some help!
Thank you in advance,
Vasil
Hey @Vasil Enev,
Thanks for calling this out, and sorry to hear you’re running into trouble. We’d like to take a deeper look into what’s going on — when you have a moment, could you open a support ticket and include:
- a short video showing exactly what you’re trying to copy
- the file you’re copying from
- any other details you think might help us reproduce the issue.
Once that’s in, someone from our team will take a closer look and help get it sorted. Appreciate you flagging this!
Thank you for the reply @Thomas Reem .
I will submit a ticket shortly!
Appreciate you taking the time to do that, @Vasil Enev — and thanks for your patience as we work to get this sorted out.
I’m experiencing the exact same issue. Copying and pasting complex components was flawless until the May 7th update.
Specs: MacBook Pro M1 Pro (14”, 32GB RAM)
Since the update, Figma freezes for 2-5 seconds every time I copy/paste. It’s extremely frustrating, especially as I do this constantly in my workflow. The lag even causes delayed cursor actions, so I sometimes end up accidentally dragging elements across the canvas after the freeze ends. It’s becoming a major productivity issue.
Any updates or fixes in progress?
i am also experiencing the same issue from Today, with (Command+C).
Device: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
Version: maxOS Big Sur 11.7.10 (20G1427)
Hey @Daniel79 and @vivzapp,
Thanks for flagging this and sharing those details — sorry to hear this is affecting your workflow. I checked in on the status from the original report, and the engineering team is actively working on a fix.
In the meantime, it would be helpful if you could write in with the following as well:
- a short video showing what you're trying to copy
- the file you're copying from
- any other context that might help us reproduce the issue.
This will help us make sure we're aligned and covering all the angles — either way, we’ll follow up here as we get more updates. Appreciate your patience and collaboration!
Hi @Vasil Enev and everyone — good news! I’ve confirmed with the team that this issue should now be resolved.
@Daniel79 and @vivzapp, when you have a moment, try refreshing Figma and testing again. If you’re still running into trouble, feel free to reply here so we can take a closer look.
Hi @Thomas Reem , this is absolutely awesome! I was able to reset Figma and the issue is fixed after today’s update (May 16)! Much love!
Thank you,
Vasil
Awesome! Appreciate you confirming, @Vasil Enev — really glad to hear it.
Thanks again for your patience and have a great weekend.
Hi @Tom Reem ,
I'm writing to report that I am experiencing the same issue, when copying and pasting both simple or complex components current Figma tab freezes for 2-5 seconds each and every time, last time I was able to use flawlessly was at the July 9th update.
I have already tried clearing my cache and restarting Figma with no luck.
Is there a ticket or a thread I can follow for updates on this? Please let me know if you need any more information from my side.
Thanks for your help.
Device: Apple Macbook Pro, M1 Pro, 16GB

Hey @Bahaa Hawari — welcome to the Figma Forum, and I’m sorry to hear you’re running into this issue as well.
I’ve seen a small number similar reports recently, though most were specific to images. Can you take a look at this thread and see if it matches what you’re experiencing: Copy and paste of images doesn't work?
Thanks for already restarting the app — super helpful to know you’ve tried that. I just tested copy/pasting both simple and complex components in a Figma Design file on my end, and everything performed as expected, so let’s see if we can narrow down what might be causing the difference on your side.
A few things to double-check:
- Are you using the Figma Desktop App or a web browser? If it’s the Desktop App, is it updated to version 125.5.6 or later?
- If you’re on a browser, which one? And do you have any extensions or plugins installed that might affect copy/paste behavior?
- Does this happen with all files, or just a specific one?
- Does the freeze happen when selecting components directly on the canvas, from the layers panel, or both?
If everything above checks out and the issue persists, the best next step would be to reach out to our Technical Quality team so they can take a closer look. When you do, it helps to include:
- a screen recording of the issue (including left/right panels, if possible)
- a link to the affected file
- edit access for support-share@figma.com.
Again, thanks for taking the time to give these items a runthrough. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Hey @Tom Reem,
Thank you for your time, I have submitted a ticket regarding my issue.
and for the questions you had, I tried all of them and here is the details:
- I tried both the web browser and the desktop app version: 125.6.4
- I tried with chrome both normal and incognito
- I am having the same issue with all my Figma files
- The issue is happening on copying components or frames directly on both canvas and layers panel
Thanks again for your help.
Thank you for taking the time to report this and for being so thorough with your troubleshooting, @Bahaa Hawari.
After catching up on this, I can confirm that our engineering team has since deployed a fix for the issue you were encountering.
If anything else comes up, don’t hesitate to reach out!
