In some cases, the export dialog is not showing the field for file name on OSX (I have tested the same on Windows, and the issue is not present there). I have observed the behaviour consistently every time.

How to reproduce:

  • Create a section with a name including ‘/’ (such as “Products list / Filtered”)
  • Create a section inside this with an empty name
The reason for the desire to not give it a name is simple: when the section is exported, the PNG actually includes the section name in the top left, which is undesirable in my specific case
  • Place any frame and/or element inside this section
  • When you are trying to export the inner section (the unnamed one) to PNG, the export dialog is missing the file name field, which is unfortunate since “.png” is not a valid name, so Figma is unable to complete the export.

The issue is immediately solved if the ‘/’ is removed from the name of the outer section.

I’m not sure if this is a bug or a feature gone wrong, but since the same doesn’t happen on Windows, I suspect the former.

Hi @lorinc.kiss,

I tried to reproduce this on my end using the Figma desktop app on macOS, and I was able to see the same issue.
After clicking Export and then Save in the dialog, I received the same error message you mentioned.

Interestingly, when testing in the browser, the export triggers a download of an Untitled.zip file, which contains an empty folder named after the outer section (“Product list”).

I understand how important this export flow is to your workflow, especially when avoiding section labels in the exported PNG. I'll go ahead and file a report for our team to review.

While we can’t promise a timeline for a fix, we truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention — and especially for flagging it with such clear repro steps.

Thanks,
