I’ve created separate collections for alias colors and component colors. Within the Alias Colors I have both Light and Dark Modes.When I try to apply the dark mode alias colors to the dark mode component, I can only see the Light Mode colors from the dropdown.

This is new behavior. Earlier this week, figma was recognizing that I was in a dark mode column for the component variables and applying the corresponding dark mode alias color. Has anyone encountered this?  Is this a bug? 
 

 

Hey ​@Camille_Woods — thanks for bringing this up. I’m checking in to see if you’re still running into the same issue with dark mode not applying as expected.

 

I tested this on my end but wasn’t able to fully reproduce the behavior you described. If this is still happening in your file, I wonder if there might be a mode conflict at play. This can sometimes happen when variables from different sources interact. You can learn more in this Figma Learn article: Modes for variables → Mode conflicts.

 

Here are two solutions that may help resolve the issue (see Prevent mode conflicts for more context):

  • Scenario 1: Make sure any changes to the variables have been published, and that those updates are accepted in the file showing the conflict.
  • Scenario 2: If you’re working across multiple files with connected assets, you’ll want to publish and accept updates in all files involved, in order — starting from the source file and working outward.
