Question

Figma Slides: section names no longer shown, and sections can't be renamed

Since November 6, 2026, I can't see or set section names in Figma Slides. Until November 5 it worked normally, without Design mode.

What happens:

  • In grid view, no section names appear on the canvas.
  • The Layers panel lists sections only as "Section 1", "Section 2", "Section 3" and so on.
  • Right-clicking a section shows Copy, Delete, Select all slides, Skip slides and Show/Hide. There is no Rename option.
  • Double-clicking a section in the Layers panel does not let me edit its name.

What I've ruled out:

  • It happens in the macOS desktop app and in Chrome.
  • It happens in existing files and in a brand-new Slides file.
  • It happens on a brand-new Figma account too, so it isn't tied to my account or file.
  • It isn't a setting: nothing under View, Preferences or the Actions search (Cmd+K) controls section names.
  • The names are still saved in my files. A plugin reading the file through the Plugin API gets the correct section names, so only the interface has stopped showing them.

Plan: Starter (free).

Questions:

  1. Is this a bug, or has section naming become a paid-plan feature? I couldn't find anything about it in the release notes or help center.
  2. Can anyone else confirm this, especially on a paid plan?

Hey @0MM, welcome to Figma Forum!

Thank you for taking the time to lay this out and for troubleshooting this so thoroughly. 🙏🏻 After checking a test file of mine, I think I’ve been able to reproduce what you’re describing. Losing section names would certainly make an existing deck a challenge to navigate.

To help clarify the behavior and the unavailable rename controls, I’ve opened case: 2250472, and sent you an email connecting you with our Technical Quality team. If you’re up for sharing an example file, please reply there with the additional details requested so the team can take a closer look and escalate for a deeper dive.

I will keep an eye out for updates and follow up here as soon as I have more details as well.
