Figma Site Make Component - Can't switch to chat/split/code view

When in a Figma Site project under “make” it isn’t possible to switch to the chat tab when editing creating/components. The top navigation chat/split/code is unresponsive. This is true in the windows and mac desktop app as well as the browser app (firefox and chrome). No matter what option is clicked the view stays on the 3 column layout: file | code editor | code layer (preview). It is not possible to use the ai chat to enter prompts.

Thanks for that info, @sdenec — really helpful.

Wanted to follow up on one thing: AI feature availability depends on your plan and Education account type. We recently expanded access, but it varies — for example, AI tools are now available for higher education and bootcamp Education users. Could you share what plan you're currently on?

This resource has the full breakdown of what's available by institution type: About Figma AI → Who can use AI tools?

Let me know if that clears anything up or unlocks things on your end.

Hi @sdenec — welcome to the Figma Forum, and thanks for bringing this up.

I tested this on my own Sites file based on your description, and the navigation between Chat, Split, and Code views is working as expected on my end — the chat prompt box in the lower left corner stays active across the chat and split modes.

If this is still happening for you, a few things that would help narrow it down:

  1. Error messages: Are you seeing any error messages when the navigation doesn't respond, or is it simply unresponsive with no feedback?
  2. Browser and app versions: Appreciate you testing across both browser and desktop — could you confirm you're running the latest version of a supported browser and that your Figma Desktop App is on 126.1.2 or later?
  3. Screen recording or screenshot: To make sure I'm testing the right area, a brief video or screenshot showing the unresponsive navigation would be really helpful.
  4. Chat details: If you're able, could you share more about the prompts you're using with the chat field?

These details will help me dig in further and escalate if needed. Thanks for your patience — looking forward to your reply.

Here is a screen recording of the issue. It only affects the component creation. When I add a make code block into a frame switching views works without issue. I have to note that I have an education account and just realized that I can’t use the ai feature anyway :(

Hi,

actually it does work now! I can switch between the tabs in Figma Sites and also can use the AI Features! Great and thank you, what ever you did. When I created my Figma account I signed up as higher education student/educator by the way and my account is connected to my university e-mail. Maybe there went something wrong when all the new ai features were rolled out. Anyway, glad I can now start to try those out :)
