Question

Figma motion is not playing webm video when exported

I have been using figma motion to create some simple animated labels on top of WebM video renders. The webm video is playing when I preview it in figma, but when I export the video (in any format), the webm video I uploaded no longer plays. The labels I added in figma motion is animated but the webm video behind it does not move when exported. The video is placed on its own within the frame and not as a background fill.

Please let me know if there is a solution to this problem!

Hey @Sydnie Chen, thanks for reaching out! Sorry for the trouble with your export, I want to help get to the bottom of this.

To help narrow down what's happening, could you share a few details?

  1. Are you using Figma in the browser or the desktop app? If desktop, could you check you're on the latest version via the Figma menu (top menu bar on Mac, or the ⌄ top-level menu on Windows) → Check for Updates?
  2. Does this happen with every export format (MP4, WebM, GIF), or just certain ones?
  3. Is the WebM video added as a video fill on a shape, or as its own separate layer in the frame?
  4. Does the exported video freeze on the first frame the whole way through, or does it play briefly before stopping?

If you're able to, please share the file with support-share@figma.com (with "can view" access), that'll let our team take a closer look at what might be going on in this specific file.

You can find more on export settings and supported formats in Export animations from Figma.

Let me know what you find on those questions and we'll go from there!

  1. I’m using Figma in the desktop app and I’m on the latest version
  2. It happens with every export format
  3. The WebM video is on its own separate layer in the frame
  4. The exported video does not play at all
