Figma Motion Export Issue | GIF Inclusion Limit

Hi Figma,

I've been using Figma Motion and have encountered a bug with GIF handling during export. When a motion composition contains multiple GIFs, exporting to MP4 renders only one of the GIFs—the others are missing from the final output. I've attached an example showing both the original design file and a screenshot of the the resulting export to illustrate the issue.

 

Is there a limit to the number of GIFs that can be included in a motion composition?

Hi, ​@GraceMartinezDesign. Thanks for your post! This is a pretty unexpected result - I’m sure it was surprising to see.

 

I believe I’ve reproduced what you are describing, but can you confirm that I’m correctly recreating the issue:

  1. Add an animated GIF to the canvas, then duplicate it two times.
  2. Wrap it in a frame.
  3. Switch to Motion, then add some changes so you create an animation. In my test, I just turned on auto-keyframe and scaled the frame over a duration of 800ms.
  4. Export to MP4. 

When I followed those steps and viewed the MP4, only the first of the three GIFs was shown. I also tried uploading a GIF three times instead of duplicating but saw the same issue. Once you confirm my steps are accurate, I’ll take this to the team for review.
