Figma motion export for mp4 not working.

Yesterday, I had a great time experimenting with Figma motion. I made a neat motion poster, but whenever I try to export it as an MP4, a new tab opens and consistently stops loading at 10% with an "Operation is not supported" error. The same issue occurs when exporting to WebM, although GIFs export successfully. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Are there any solutions? What mistakes am I making?

Hey, @alnana! Thanks for trying out Motion - I’m glad you’re having a great time with it even if you’re having some difficulty exporting to MP4 and WebM. I don’t think you’re making any mistakes.

Are you using a web browser or the desktop app? I’m not sure if it would make a difference, but it’s worth trying both to see if that makes a difference. Also, are the dimensions of your animation larger than 1920x1080 or more than 30 FPS? If you have the free Starter plan you’ll be limited to dimensions and a FPS lower than those thresholds. I’m also checking with our team to see what’s expected here or if this is a known issue. Let me know if you continue having trouble, too!

Quick followup, @alnana: would you be able to share a link to your file with me so our team can take a look? You’ll welcome to send it via a private message if you prefer. You’ll also want to share it with support-share@figma.com with view access (this won’t prompt you to upgrade). Thank you!

Any answers? Same issues and it’s not intuitive where this “new tab” should be opening.

I'm experiencing the issue on web browser. I have not yet tried the next top app. The dimensions are not larger than the one stated and I'm trying to export in in 30 frames per second. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thank you

Hi All,

I’m Dave the PM on Motion, I’m very sorry your first experiences with the Product have been frustrating. Let’s see if we can get you all up and running and sharing your creations with the world.

I think there might be a couple of issues going off here, and I’m going to have to ask a few clarifying questions if thats ok.

@alnana from what I can see about your issue you ARE seeing the export tab, so thats good, but there’s something preventing your machine from actually creating frames of video. The first ~10% of the export is us loading the Figma file again in the new tab and making sure we have access to all of the assets/images things we need to start making video, from that point we actually start making the video. I couldn’t find the file in the support-share@figma.com account did you manage to share it? I’ve requested access to your file so I can take a look to see if theres something in it thats preventing the export.

Things you could try in the meantime before we get access to your file

  1. Check that hardware acceleration is turned on in your browser
  2. Try downloading the latest version of the desktop app from here for your platform

If neither of these help then we should check out the file

Apologies again, I look forward to hearing from you

Hey David, thanks so much for getting back to me! I've gone ahead and given you access to the file. I haven't gotten around to trying the desktop app yet, but I did try downloading it on a different browser, Microsoft Edge, and it finally worked! Before that, I was using Mozilla Firefox.
