Figma Make UI Kit URL publish "update" button missing

I can publish the URL of the Figma Make kit I created, serving as documentation for the component library used in other projects. BUT - I cannot update the published URL once it’s live? Unlike regular Make projects, it’s completely missing. No update button. Why?

Note, I am NOT referring to publishing the package itself. Only the URL.

If I unpublish, then republish, I get the popup that after it’s done pushing live it says “update”, but once I close that popup I have NO way of accessing it again to press update.

Hey @Josh22, thanks for reaching out!

I completely understand how this must be slowing down your workflow, but from what you’ve described, it sounds like you might be looking in the wrong place. To republish updates to a Make kit, you should be using the "Update kit" button that lives persistently in the top-right corner of your Make kit file, so you shouldn't need to rely on the disappearing popup at all.

Could you check if that button is visible when you have your Make kit file open? A couple of quick questions to help us dig into this further:

  • Are you opening the Make kit file itself (not a regular Make project that uses the kit)?
  • What does the top-right corner of the file look like? Do you see any buttons there at all?

A screenshot would be super helpful if you're able to share one!

I’m not talking about republishing the Make kit. That’s why I said URL. The “Update Kit” blue CTA in the top right only shows settings to “Unpublish” and “Update Kit”. This is for the package export.

In the project settings you have the ability to publish the webpage URL, so I can use the kit as a DEMO page for the components. Why? Because otherwise any designer consuming the kit has NO idea what components are in it or how they work. And having to use a separate project to demo the kit means 2x the work as I would have to publish the kit, open the other demo project, then update the kit, then publish the demo page.

When you publish the URL from the project settings, there is NO republish button. You have to unpublish and then publish again to update the URL.

So:
[ Share ] [ Update Kit ]

Then popup shows:
[ Unpublish ] [ Update Kit ]

But should also show [ Republish URL ] - which it does not

Hey @Josh22, thanks for clarifying!

This context helps, so apologies for the oversight on my part. Please note that what you're describing is currently expected behavior and a real gap in the current experience. When you publish the URL from project settings for a Make Kit, there's currently no persistent button to push updates to that published URL. The only way to trigger a republish is to go back through the Publish modal. The Update option that briefly appears in the post-publish popup isn't accessible again once dismissed, which is exactly the friction you're hitting.

This is something the team is aware of and has been discussed internally. We don't have a timeline to share yet, but I'll make sure this forum post gets visibility with the right people. In the meantime, the unpublish → republish flow is currently the only temporary solution.

Hopefully this helps explain, but thank you again for breaking down the issue.
