Figma make to figma design copy not working properly

I’m experiencing a persistent copy–paste issue in Figma.
Whenever I copy frames or components from Figma Make to a Figma Design project, the layout gets distorted — spacing changes, auto-layout breaks, and typography styles don’t map correctly.

If anyone has faced this and found a reliable solution, please share. This is slowing down my workflow, especially when combining Make explorations with production-ready design files.

I’m having a similar issue.
When I paste into Figma Design, I only get a portion of the design (menu options, which are part of my design). But I don’t get any of the other content (the most important part) i.e. form components, buttons, fields, headers, etc. This happens from wherever page I happen to copy from.

Hi @Deok Filho — Celyn from Figma Community Support here.

Thanks for flagging this and for sharing the context. I’m sorry you’re running into issues with copy-pasting into Figma Design.

Could you please review the steps below to confirm everything is set up correctly?

  • Make sure you’re viewing the preview of your Figma Make file. As a quick check, you can also try refreshing the preview or the page.
  • Navigate to the specific state you want to copy (a page, screen, or interface view).
  • Click the “Copy design” icon at the top of Figma Make.

Here’s the guide for reference: Copy a Figma Make preview as design layers

If the issue persists, it would be really helpful if you could share a screenshot or screen recording showing the steps you take (with the full Figma window visible)

Please also share your impacted file with support-share@figma.com and grant “Can View” access  This will not impact your billing and will allow us to reproduce the issue and investigate with Engineering.

Thanks!

I’m unable to copy design from Figma make.
The copy design button is greyed out.

Hi Celyn,

It looks like copying and pasting from Figma Make is inconsistent. Sometimes it copies the entire page, and other times it only copies part of it. Do you know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Sarika

Hi @Sarika Arora, thanks for flagging this.

That does sound inconsistent, and I’d like to help narrow down what’s happening. Could you share a bit more detail on your setup?

  • When only part of the content gets copied, is it consistently missing certain elements, or does it vary each time?
  • Does this happen every time you copy, or only with specific Make outputs/pages?
  • Where are you pasting the content (same file, new Figma file, or external tool)?

As a quick check in the meantime, a couple of things that might help:

  • Try selecting everything using Cmd/Ctrl + A before copying, instead of drag-selecting
  • Try copying from a fresh Make file to see if the behavior is the same
  • Switch between Desktop and browser to see if there’s any difference

This guide might also be helpful, as it covers copying content from Figma Make previews into design layers:
Copy a Figma Make preview as design layers

If you’ve tried these and the issue is still happening, the best next step would be to submit a bug report so the team can take a closer look at what’s happening in your specific setup.

You can do that by:

  • Going to the Support Hub - Clicking Start a chat -Typing “Report a bug”

When submitting, it would be really helpful to include:

  • A direct link to the affected file
  • Invite support-share@figma.com with “Can View” access (Note that this will not impact your billing and allows us to reproduce and investigate the issue with Engineering)
  • Any screenshots or screen recordings showing the issue

Let me know how it goes!
